In a split second, both his expression and his posture reverted entirely to the cold, unapproachable CEO he had been before they stepped into the elevator.
Suzie was speechless.
That jerk was either a complete psychopath or had some serious split-personality disorder!
She shot him a venomous glare before storming out of the elevator.
As soon as she stepped out, she noticed a small group of people standing on either side of the hallway. They were raking their eyes over her with expressions usually reserved for cheap escorts.
Suzie froze.
Had Jamie been blocking her view when the doors opened? Had they seen him pinning her to the wall?
She assumed they were giving her that look because they had witnessed the compromising position in the elevator.
But as she watched them, she realized their eyes kept darting to her torn dress and the oversized men's jacket tied around her waist.
Suzie frowned, glancing down at herself.
They thought she was...
Heat rushed to her cheeks. She was used to people looking down on her for being poor in the past, but she had never been looked at like this.
Combined with the harassment she had just endured from Mr. Split-Personality in the elevator, her anger completely boiled over.
A cynical, dangerous smile tugged at the corner of her lips, her eyes turning ice-cold.
Raising her chin, she didn't hold back. "What are you staring at? Never seen a couple flirt before?"
Her sharp voice didn't just shock the onlookers—it completely stunned Jamie.
"We... we are so sorry! It was just a misunderstanding. A total misunderstanding!"
Their arrogant sneers instantly melted into terrified, groveling apologies, their voices overlapping in panic.
Jamie gave them one last icy look before looking down at Suzie, who was still tucked securely against his side. His voice softened entirely. "If you're not satisfied, I can have security throw them out."
Suzie didn't feel a shred of triumph. Her own words hadn't made them back off; it was only when Jamie showed up that they started acting like cowards.
So she was only worthy of respect when she was riding his coattails?
More than anything, she hated hypocrites like this. People who despised those they deemed beneath them, only to turn into spineless sycophants the second they met someone richer.
But despite her disgust, she had no interest in dragging the drama out. She swatted Jamie's hand away and kept walking.
