Dani's heart skipped a beat.
Every nerve in her body suddenly snapped taut.
Since they had first mentioned divorce, barring a few unplanned moments, they hadn't shared any physical intimacy.
The sheer, ridiculous tension of the moment left her completely flustered.
"No," she finally managed to say.
Alex let out a quiet breath of relief, though a pang of bittersweet ache quickly followed.
Leaning his head against the cold tile, he rubbed his forehead, forcing back the pain radiating through his bruised ribs. He softened his voice. "I just finished anyway. My hair is still wet."
Dani hummed quietly in response, her thumb brushing over the screen of her phone. She was looking at one of their few photos together. In it, she was beaming, while he looked characteristically stoic.
It always seemed like he kept his emotions locked away.
It was a snapshot of who they were years ago, before everything fell apart.
Stroking the glass softly, she asked, "How are things over there? Have you found any trace of Harold?"
The shift back to business cleared the air slightly.
Staying propped against the wall, his tone grew serious. "We found him. He's hiding out in the old port district, on the outskirts. It's his old stomping grounds—a maze with heavy security. His people run the place, so getting close isn't an option right now."
"I did some recon tonight. Narrowly avoided getting spotted by his patrols."
He deliberately downplayed the infiltration, completely omitting the brutal, life-or-death brawl in his bedroom just minutes ago. He didn't want to panic her.
But Dani was far too perceptive. She caught the subtle exhaustion beneath his calm facade immediately.
Alex listened in silence, occasionally murmuring an acknowledgment. His eyes were soft, his heart aching with an overwhelming need to hold his little girl and the woman waiting for him.
They talked for a long time. It was the dead of night in Penang, and morning was just beginning to break back home.

"I promise."

After a long beat of silence, he finally spoke. "Dani, when I come back... let's get remarried. Please."

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
