Chapter 632 Surprising Blind Date
He effortlessly shifted the topic. “Alright, Raymond, I’ve known Warren forever. You better bring your A-game to that blind date tomorrow, you hear me?
“Even if she’s not your type, keep it polite and pleasant. I still want to stay on good terms with Warren.”
Raymond couldn’t help but chuckle at his father’s reminders.
He raised his hands lazily in mock surrender. “Alright, alright. I’ll go through the motions and make sure we part on good terms. Happy?”
Seeing his casual, completely uninterested attitude, Riley bit back a smile.
If she didn’t have a mountain of work waiting at the office, she would’ve loved to sneak over and watch-just to see how her brother Ray would handle a setup like this.
*****
The next morning, Raymond showed up at the café right on time.
He’d claimed not to care, but he didn’t want to embarrass his dad, either.
Before heading out, he actually spent a solid ten minutes in his walk-in closet-something he never did-and finally settled on a subtly patterned suit with a navy tie.
He looked polished and professional.
Sitting by the window, watching the traffic flow past, he was quietly complaining to himself.
His dad had described Warren’s daughter, Claudia, as sweet-natured and refined.
So she’d probably be the type in a nice dress, with long, straight hair, soft-spoken and polite.
Not long after, though, when someone stopped at his table, Raymond’s expectations were completely thrown out the window.
The woman wore an oversized hoodie and black joggers with tapered ankles.
Her chin-length hair was neatly cut and dyed a trendy ash brown.
She looked so casual, like she’d just come from the gym and dropped in for a quick coffee on her way home.
Raymond raised an eyebrow, gave her a once-over, and spoke first, a little unsure, “Hey, are you Warren’s daughter? Claudia?”
Claudia pulled out the chair across from him and sat down, tossing her bag to the side without ceremony, meeting his gaze without a hint of shyness.
Her look was direct and bold, edged with playful amusement.
Then she suddenly broke into a grin and dropped a bombshell. “Yeah, that’s me. So you’re Raymond?”
“Whoa, you look way more alive in person than in your pictures. But honestly, you’re not bad –you’ve got the looks, you’ve got the family money. So how come you’ve made it this far without a steady girlfriend? Don’t tell me… there’s something wrong with you?”
Raymond had just taken a sip of water and almost choked.
The corner of his mouth twitched.
If it weren’t for his upbringing, he might’ve shot back, “You’re the one with the problem!”
He took a slow breath, held onto his cool and composed demeanor, set his glass down, and replied evenly, “I’ve been focused on my career these past few years and never really made time for dating. My dad… well, he’s the one in a hurry.”
