The True Heiress Reborn And Slays (Alicia Delaney) novel Chapter 620

Chapter 620 An Old Scheme Unraveled

He had worked it all out in his mind-if he could just pin this on Sebastian, not only would his/ granddaughter’s image be salvaged, but she’d also secure a foothold in the main family and climb up the social ladder.

Too bad his wishful thinking was never going to fly.

Whether it was Sebastian’s ice-cold, uncompromising stance or Wayne’s ruthless sarcasm, if was already crystal clear-they had zero intention of taking Teresa in.

Sander watched him refuse to see reason, waved a hand wearily, and didn’t bother saying another word

Over on the other side, Sebastian returned to the room, still steaming.

Riley had been leaning against the sofa, going through some paperwork. She glanced up when she heard him come in, and seeing the stormy look on his face, she guessed something unpleasant had gone down.

“What happened?” she asked softly. “What did they say over at Sander’s? Was it about Teresa?”

The tension in Sebastian’s jaw seemed to ease just a little the moment his eyes landed on Riley. He walked straight over to her, his tall frame lowering as he dropped to one knee in front of her.

“Teresa twisted the whole story,” he said, the anger still simmering in his voice. “She told the family that I was the one who asked her to meet me at that hotel-that’s how she ended up running into those thugs.”

He looked up, his eyes burning. “Wilson dragged my father and all those elders into it, trying to use family pressure to force me to take responsibility for this mess.”

Riley’s lips parted slightly, her clear eyes widening in disbelief. She’d considered all kinds of scenarios, but she never expected things could get this ridiculous.

This was a new low.

“Take responsibility?” she said, somewhere between annoyed and amused. “You were only up at that hotel for what-five minutes? How on earth could they possibly blame you?”

“Exactly,” Sebastian grumbled in response.

His handsome face remained stern, but kneeling there like that, he almost looked like he was sulking. He took her hand from her lap and held it firmly, venting in a low, frustrated tone, “Haven’t I made it obvious enough how I feel about you? And they still think I’d have any interest in another woman. Are they insulting me, or are they insulting you?”

Riley paused, quickly running the whole situation through her head.

And then it clicked.
