The Stranger Behind My Orgasm novel Chapter 267

Chapter 267: DENVER

Abigail

"Can you?" I narrowed my eyes at my best friend, wondering just what on earth she was keeping from me.

If she wasn’t staying with Jade, where was she staying? And for weeks at that.

"Please tell me you didn’t go back to our old apartment,"

"No, of course not,"

Especially after what had happened in that place with Gavin. I shuddered at the memory. Gavin was dead, but that didn’t mean Devin couldn’t know about our apartment and have men watching the place.

"Uhhh, guys?" Jade cut in, glancing at both of us nervously.

Sasha leaned forward, eyes wide with curiosity. "Hold up. What the hell is going on?"

"Oh, it’s nothing," Annette mumbled. "I just wanted my own privacy, and as much as I like you and Finnegan, you two making mushy faces at each other was kicking me in the gut,"

She was lying. Annette’s lower lip always quivered when she did. Sasha and Jade ate it up though but I knew my bestfriend.

"Aww, don’t worry, Annie, you’ll meet someone cute soon," Sasha piped in.

"Cute? No, baby," Jade scoffed and belched loudly. "You need someone hot. With a long—"

"Oh my gosh, Jade, we’re in public," I laughed, grabbing my glass of wine. I wouldn’t push Annette to talk yet. When we were in private, I would ask her.

An hour later, Sasha was helping a drunk Jade, who was belting out Sweet Caroline, climb into her husband’s car.

"Bye Abigail, bye Annette, love youuuu,"

"Love you too," I and Annette chorused, waving them off until the car disappeared out of the restaurant parking lot.

Then I turned to Annette. "So now I want to hear the truth,"

"Ugh, nothing gets past you," Annette groaned.

"You got past me for like three weeks, girl, start talking,"

"Can we at least go to your car first?"

I grabbed her hand in mine and tugged her toward where Connor had parked the car.

The cool night air whipped around us, and there was the distant hum of cars in traffic several meters away.

I crossed my arms, leaning against the car, arching my brow.

"Okay, madam confessor," she grumbled dryly and leaned against the car beside me, running a hand through her hair.

"I’ve been staying at a hotel, okay. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s safe. I didn’t want to worry you. You’ve been dealing with the accident, Devin, the funeral, Angel... I didn’t want to add to it."

I stepped closer, searching her face. "Why? You’re my best friend. You don’t have to hide from me."

"Because I know you’re going to freak out," she groaned, then whispered, avoiding my eyes. "I’ve been tracking Devin."

My brows shot up. "What? Annette, I told you not to do that,"

As much as I wanted to get Devin, I wasn’t going to sacrifice my best friend to get him. Gavin had taught me that much. Finn’s men and the police were on it; I didn’t need Annette risking her neck anymore!

"I know," she huffed. "I just wanted to, okay? I’ve been working on this ever since I left your place. I stayed at Jade’s at first, but she kept asking too many questions. So I moved to a hotel,"

"Oh my god, Annie, no," I gasped, shaking my head rapidly.

Before he could answer, a high-pitched, whiny voice called from behind him. "Eric, honey! Where are you?"

Eric’s face paled, and he stepped closer to me and Annette, clasping his hands together.

"Help me. Please. I’ll explain later, but I need to hide from that woman."

A blonde girl strutted toward us in heels, smiling brightly. "Eric! Oh, I found you!"

Annette stepped up smoothly, hooking her arm around Eric’s waist. "Who is this, babe? You left me at home with our four kids to go on a date?"

The blonde froze, eyes widening. "Wait... he’s... you’re his wife?"

Annette smiled sweetly. "Yes. Now if you’ll excuse us..."

The girl muttered something and hurried away. The moment she was gone, we all burst out laughing.

Eric grinned at Annette. "That was incredible. I don’t think we’ve actually spoken before, but I already owe you my life. Your acting skills are next level."

Annette smirked. "I used to be in theater. Comes in handy."

My brows rose at the sight.

"So what were you doing with her?" Annette asked.

"I’ll tell you over a glass of wine, if you let me," he grinned, closing in on her before shooting me a look. "Abigail’s been hiding a gem from me all this while?"

"Ugh, real smooth, Eric, so smooth, you kids have fun," I teased.

As Eric and Annette walked off, chatting animatedly, I climbed into the car with Connor, smiling to myself. But the minute I stepped into the house, the smile disappeared.
