Abigail
"What was that about?" I typed quickly to Annette, my heart racing slightly.
She hadn’t been staying with us for some weeks. She had been staying over at Jade’s place. I hadn’t brought it up because I felt awful that my best friend needed a break from me.
I had pretty much dragged Annette into this mess, so I hadn’t wanted to drag her any further.
With the funeral, the crazy stunt Devin pulled by burning the house down, and Angel ratting her mother out, we had only discussed it briefly once, and that time felt like a thousand years ago.
That was the whole reason we had planned to hang out this evening. Me, her, Sasha, and Jade.
But what was that text about?
"It’s nothing. Just get your ass here," she texted in reply.
Pushing away from my desk, I strode into Finnegan’s office. He was still at his desk, staring at his laptop with that focused frown I loved but was starting to wish he didn’t wear all the time.
"Hey," I called softly, leaning against the doorframe. "I’m heading out to meet Annette, Sasha, and Jade. Are you ready to leave too?"
His eyes softened, a reluctant look crossing his face. "Do you have to go?"
I raised an eyebrow, stepping closer. "Yes, I do. It’s been ages since I’ve seen them. Annette hasn’t even been staying with us the past few days. I miss my girl."
"And I miss you when you’re not here, even for a few hours," he murmured, making my heart flutter rapidly.
I stopped in front of his desk, unable to hide my grin. "You’re getting clingy, Mr. Wolfe."
He reached out, catching my hand and pulling me around the desk until I stood between his spread thighs. His hands settled on my hips, thumbs stroking gently.
"Let’s just go home together. Annette can have you another night. Angel can pick what dinner to order, and we can watch something. Or... not watch something."
I laughed, running my fingers through his hair. "Tempting. Very tempting. But I promised them. And I need time with my girl."
He sighed, pulling me closer until I was straddling his lap.
"Fine. But I’m assigning you a driver and you mustn’t argue. I don’t want you going anywhere alone right now. I can’t bear anything happening to you
I rolled my eyes playfully but pressed my lips to his. "Yes, sir. I’ll be fine. I’ll text you when I get there and when I’m heading home."
He kissed me again, deeper this time, hands sliding up my back. "Come back to me soon."
"I will," I whispered against his lips.
"And you might need this." He slid a black card into my palm.
I groaned, pulling away slightly. "Finn, I still have the one you gave me."
"Having another isn’t too much," he grumbled.
"It is," I replied, stroking his jaw. "I don’t want people thinking I’m with you for money."
"I thought you were mine,"
"I am," I replied quickly, and his eyes narrowed.
"Then you’re mine to spoil, Abigail." He said huskily, brushing his lips over my ear. "Keep arguing and I’ll cancel the one you already have, then you’ll have no choice but to use this one."
The next hour was filled with gossip, and not just about Finnegan, though it felt so good being able to talk about my relationship with him freely now that he was no longer married.
Victoria was in prison awaiting trial. Finnegan had made sure her requests for bail were all rejected for what she did to Angel.
I suspected she had done much more to Angel, because the girl had been very closed off ever since the funeral night.
I had tried talking to her, but with all the damage control over the mess Devin caused, it had been hard keeping track of everything.
"...do you think, Abby?"
I blinked, tuning back into the conversation. "Sorry, what?"
"Oh, don’t mind them," Annette grumbled, but Jade shot her a look before turning to me.
"I was saying my husband’s brother called, and then he said the craziest thing. He asked if I could introduce him to Annette because she sounded hot on the phone. I told him she’s way out of his league, but he’s a lawyer, so what do you think?"
"A lawyer and a hacker? Now that’s a power couple right there," I chuckled.
Sasha laughed. "Classic. I’m sure your husband’s all relieved Annette’s left your place, Jade. He is so terrified of her."
Annette froze for half a second. Her face went white while I whipped my head toward her in shock. "Wait... you’re not staying with Jade?"
The table went quiet. Jade blinked, confused. "What? No, she moved out like two weeks ago or something."
"What? Annette? You told me you were staying at Jade’s. Where have you been staying all this while?"
Annette’s face drained of color. "Abby, I can explain,"
