The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 194

Chapter One Hundred Ninety Four

The darkness had already felt the child. The curse had already recognized the next generation. Thorne closed his eyes. Images flooded his mind.

Agatha holding a child. Lucian kneeling beside her. Their happiness. Their home. Their family. Everything Gideon had wanted.

Everything he had lost. The pain struck Thorne anexpectedly. He pressed one hand against his chest.

“A child…”

His voice no longer sounded triumphant. It sounded wounded.

“Why?”

His eyes opened.

“Why does the Silver Wolf always receive everything?”

A mate. A child. A family. Love. Devotion.

Why did the Silver Wolf always get to live the life Gideon had been denied? Why did Thorne feel as though he had been denied that same life?

He frowned. A memory tried to surface. Ravenna laughing beneath sunlight. Her hand resting against his chest. Her voice-

Our child.

Thorne staggered.

“No.”

Darkness surged around him. The memory disappeared. He pressed his fingers against his temples.

“The Silver Wolf takes everything.”

His voice became harsher.

“She receives everything I want.”

Everything Gideon wanted. Everything Thorne wanted. Wanted?

Thorne froze.

What did he want? A mate? He had one. Didn’t he?

Ravenna.

The thought came without permission. His heart gave a painful throb.

A child? Another memory tried to rise. Ravenna standing in the forest. Tears on her face.

Thorne, please. Our child is within me

Thorne’s breathing became ragged.

“No.”

The darkness whispered around him.

Lies.

He grabbed onto the word.

“Yes. She lies.”

The ache remained. Thorne looked once more toward the distant Royal Pack,

“Enjoy your child while you can, Silver Wolf.”

His voice became cold again.

“Because now I know.”

He slowly pulled his magic away from Black Howler. One by one, the feral minds disappeared from his awareness. But the knowledge remained.

Claim

Diana was pregnant. Diana was weaker. And once the child was born, the curse would lose its opportunity. That meant time had become important. The Silver Wolf had to die before the next generation arrived. Thorne opened his eyes fully. Darkness filled them.

“Prepare.”

The command traveled instantly through every feral wolf connected to his magic. Hundreds lifted their heads. Some miles away. Some hidden only a short distance from Black Howler. The hunt was changing. Thorne smiled.

“The next attack will not be another test.”

Meanwhile, inside Black Howler-

Talon stood near the window of his office, staring toward the forest. He could feel something wrong beyond the border. Fenrir paced restlessly inside him.

“Mate is with pup.”

The wolf had repeated the statement nearly every few minutes since Ravenna revealed the truth.

“Our mate is carrying our pup.”

“I know.”

“We need to protect them.”

“We will.”

“know.”

“Then kill them.”

Talon sighed inwardly.

“Fenrir.”

“Go now.”

“We cannot.”

“We can.”

“No.”

Fenrir growled.

“We are the Alpha King.”

“Yes.”

“We are the strongest wolf.”

“Yes.”

“Then why are we standing here while enemies surround our pregnant mate?”

Claim

Because Talon understood something his wolf did not want to accept. Strength alone would not win this fight. Thorne had already proven that. The dark witch controlled poison. Earth. Air. Perhaps even fire.

Perhaps things Ravenna had not yet revealed. And now Diana was vulnerable. More vulnerable than she had ever been. Talon placed one hand against the window.

“We cannot simply charge into the forest.”

Fenrir snarled.

“Why?”

“Because Ravenna just told us exactly what happens to a pregnant Silver Wolf.”

Talon’s jaw tightened.

“Diana’s powers are divided. Artemis is protecting the pup. Her resistance to poison is weaker. Her stamina is reduced. If we rush into an attack and Thorne appears…”

Fenrir became quiet. Talon continued.

“We may not be able to protect them.”

The admission hurt. He hated saying it. Hated acknowledging that there was an enemy he could not simply tear apart with claws and teeth. Fenrir did too.

“We should still kill the ferals.”

“We will. But not recklessly.”

Silence. Talon could feel Fenrir’s frustration. Then finally-

“Our pup needs us.”

“Yes.”

“Our mate needs us.”

“Yes.”

Fenrir reluctantly settled.

“Then we think.”

Talon smiled faintly.

“Exactly.”

Claim

That was progress. Normally Fenrir’s solution to danger was simple. Attack. Kill. Protect mate. Repeat. But this situation demanded more. Talon turned away from the window.

“For now, the first thing we do is take Diana to the healer.”

Fenrir immediately agreed.

“Yes.”

“She needs a full examination.”

“Yes.”

“We need to know how far along she is.”

“Yes.”

“We need to know if the poison affected our pup.”

Fenrir growled.

“Do not say that.”

“We need to know.”

“The pup is strong.”

“I believe that too.”

Talon started walking toward the door.

“Ravenna says both are healthy. But Ravenna is not our pack healer.”

Fenrir considered that.

“Exactly.”

The wolf finally sounded satisfied.

“Then after…”

Talon continued.
