The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 183

Chapter One Hundred Eighty Three

Diana stood beside the large window in Talon’s office, staring out at the distant forest surrounding Black Howler. The training grounds below were active. Warriors moved in formation. Patrols changed shifts. Guards inspected weapons and strengthened the defenses around the pask house. Everything outside appeared normal. Strong. Organized. Safe.

But inside the office, the air felt heavy with the weight of thousands of years of pain.

Diana remained silent as Ravenna finished telling the story of Agatha, Lucian, and Gideon. Her heart ached for all three of them.

So much pain. So much loss. So much betrayal.

Agatha and Lucian had only followed their hearts. They had followed the bond created between them by the Moon Goddess. They had chosen one another, loved each other, and tried to live a peaceful life away from the hatred between their kinds. They had not asked for war. They had not deliberately tried to hurt Gideon. They had simply wanted the freedom to choose their own future.

But in following the path fate had created for them, they had destroyed the future Gideon believed belonged to him.

Diana placed one hand against the window. Agatha and Gideon’s families had not helped. From the time they were children, everyone had told them that they were meant for one another. They had been raised with the belief that their future was already decided. Their parents spoke of their binding as though it were guaranteed. Their families planned the life they would live.

Their coven expected them to unite powerful bloodlines and produce children whose magic would protect future generations.

No one had ever stopped to ask whether Agatha and Gideon truly wanted that life. No one had taught Gideon that love could change.

That promises made by their parents did not mean Agatha belonged to him. That a person could care deeply for someone and still choose another path.

Instead, Gideon built his entire existence around Agatha. She became the center of every dream. Every plan. Every expectation.

He loved her before he was old enough to understand what love meant. And because everyone around him encouraged that belief, he never imagined a future where Agatha was not beside him.

When she left, Gideon did not simply lose the woman he loved. He lost the life he had been promised. The binding. The children.

The power their families believed they would create together. Everything he had been taught to expect disappeared with a letter.

Diana closed her eyes.

“Love truly is only a breath away from hate,” she whispered.

Talon stood behind her, listening quietly. Ravenna lowered her gaze. Diana continued speaking, more to

herself than anyone else.

“Gideon loved Agatha with everything he had. But when she chose Lucian, he did not know what to do with that love.”

Her expression became sad.

“So it changed.”

The love became pain. The pain became anger. The anger became hatred. Gideon hated Agatha for leaving him. He hated Lucian for being the male she chose. He hated the Moon Goddess for creating a bond that excluded him. He hated his own magic for failing to connect with hers. And eventually, Gideon hated himself for not being enough.

But instead of facing that paih and allowing himself to heal, he surrendered to it. He allowed the darkness to convince him that Agatha had been stolen. That Lucian had taken something that rightfully belonged to him. That her choice was not real because it was not the choice Gideon wanted her to make.

His love became an obsession. An obsession with possessing the woman he believed should have been his. An obsession with defeating the wolf Agatha loved. An obsession with reclaiming the future he had been promised since childhood. A home. A binding.

A family. A life with Agatha. Diana turned from the window.

“But Agatha was not a future that could be stolen,” she said.

“She was a person. She had the right to choose.”

Ravenna nodded sadly.

“She did.”

“And Gideon could not accept that.”

“No.”

Diana looked toward Ravenna.

“He blamed them for what he became. He believed Agatha and Lucian created the darkness inside him.”

Ravenna folded her hands over her lap.

“But the darkness was always his choice.”

Diana nodded.

“Pain may have opened the door. But Gideon chose to walk through it.”

Silence filled the office. Even Artemis remained quiet inside Diana’s mind. Usually, her wolf had something to say about everything.

But now, Artemis only listened. Perhaps she also felt the sadness surrounding the ancient story. After several moments, Ravenna spoke again.

“Gideon’s darkness told the truth about one thing.”

Diana looked at her.

“What do you mean?”

Ravenna’s pale eyes filled with sorrow, but a small smile touched her lips.

“Agatha and Lucian lived a happy life.”

The smile grew slightly.

“After the battle, Lucian helped rebuild the coven.

Diana raised her eyebrows.

“The witches allowed him to remain?”

“At first, many feared him.”

Ravenna nodded slowly.

“He had brought thousands of wolves into their territory. But Lucian had ordered his army not to harm children, peaceful elders, or anyone who surrendered. He proved that he had not come to destroy the witches. He came only for Agatha.”

Ravenna glanced toward Talon.

“And once Gideon disappeared, the war ended. The wolves withdrew. Lucian allowed the witches to bury their dead and repair their homes. Agatha convinced both sides to begin speaking.”

Ravenna’s smile became warmer as she remembered the story passed down through generations.

“Their child was born safely. A daughter.”

Diana instinctively placed a hand over her own heart.

“She carried both wolf blood and witch magic?”

“Yes.”

“She was the first of her kind.”

Ravenna’s expression softened.

“Lucian loved her deeply. Agatha taught her healing magic. Lucian taught her to understand her wolf. The child grew surrounded by love from both her parents.”

Ravenna’s smile faded slightly.

“Agatha and Lucian eventually had more children. They raised their family in the same small village where Gideon had found them. They rebuilt their cottage. Lucian repaired the cradle. Agatha continued healing the humans who lived nearby. They lived a simple life whenever they could.”

Diana imagined them. Agatha gathering herbs. Lucian returning from the forest with their children running toward him. A witch and a wolf creating the peaceful life their kinds had once declared impossible.

They were happy.” Diana whispered.

“Very.”

Ravenna nodded.

“They loved one another until the end of their lives. They lived longer than ordinary wolves or witches because of the power within their joined bloodline. They watched their children grow. They met their grandchildren. And eventually…”

Ravenna paused.

“They met the first Silver Wolf born after Lucian.”

Diana’s body became still.

“Their descendant.”

“Yes.”

“Their great-granddaughter.”

Ravenna’s expression turned heavy again.

“She was born many years after Lucian’s first child. No one expected another Silver Wolf to emerge so soon. But the moment the young wolf shifted for the first time…”

Ravenna closed her eyes.

“Gideon’s darkness awakened.”

The office seemed colder. Talon moved closer to Diana.

“What happened?” he asked.

Ravenna opened her eyes.

“The signs were subtle in the beginning. Nightmares. Strange shadows moving near the child. Wolves disappearing from distant territories. Witches becoming restless, Then the attacks began.”

Diana’s jaw tightened.

“Feral rogues.”

Ravenna nodded.

“Wolves whose minds had been broken by dark magic. Witches who heard voices urging them to kill the Silver Wolf. Old hatred between wolves and witches resurfaced. Treaties failed. Families turned against one another. And eventually… War.”

Diana’s heart sank.

“Agatha and Lucian lived long enough to witness it.”

“Yes.”
