The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 151

Chapter One Hundred Fifty One

The next time Diana opened her eyes, everything was quiet. For a few long seconds, she simply stared at the unfamiliar ceiling above her, her mind sluggish as sleep slowly released its hold on her. Soft afternoon sunlight filtered through the curtains, bathing the room in a warm golden glow.

She blinked. Then blinked again. This wasn’t her bedroom in the Black Howler Royal Pack. Or the guest suite in Rogue Kingdom.

The realization came slowly before everything returned at once.

Stone Claw.

The interrupted mating and succession ceremony.

Rafe.

Vanessa.

The Elder Council.

She pushed herself up slowly, surprised that her body no longer protested. The soreness lingering from Thorne’s and the feral rogue attack had finally disappeared. Even the heaviness in her muscles was gone.

She looked around the luxurious suite that Stone Claw had prepared for her and Talon. The room was empty. Her eyes drifted toward the large windows. The sun was already high in the sky.

“…I overslept.”

She frowned. That almost never happened. Even after exhausting training sessions, Diana rarely slept past sunrise. Years of discipline as a warrior had trained her body to wake early.

“I must have really been exhausted,” she murmured.

Inside her mind, Artemis lazily stretched before letting out a content sigh.

“I certainly was.”

Diana smiled faintly.

“You finally decided to wake up.”

“I was enjoying the silence,” Artemis replied lazily. “Besides, after everything we’ve been through, I deserved a proper nap.”

Diana laughed softly.

“I can’t argue with that.”

The Silver Wolf yawned inside their shared consciousness.

“Our body needed this. I earned it.”

Just then- The bedroom door quietly opened. Talon stepped inside carrying a tray of food in one hand.

The moment his deep blue eyes landed on Diana sitting upright in bed, relief flooded his entire face. The Tray was forgotten. He crossed the room in only a few long strides.

Without saying a word, he wrapped both arms around her and pulled her tightly against his chest. Diana laughed softly as she returned the embrace.

“My love…”

Talon buried his face against her neck, inhaling deeply. Only after several long moments did he finally pull back enough to look at her. He kissed her forehead. Then her nose. Then her lips. One gentle kiss after another.

“What happened?” Diana asked with a small smile. “You look like you’ve been worrying.”

She studied his face carefully. Dark circles rested beneath his eyes. His hair was slightly disheveled. He looked like a wolf who hadn’t relaxed since she had fallen asleep. inside her mind, Diana reached for Artemis.

“Did something happen while we were asleep?”

Artemis yawned dramatically.

“I have absolutely no idea.”

“You were asleep too?”

“I was dead to the world.”

The Silver Wolf stretched again.

“If the pack caught fire, I probably would’ve rolled over and gone back to sleep.”

Diana chuckled. Talon finally answered.

“Nothing happened.”

He brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

“I was simply worried.”

“Worried?”

He nodded.

“You didn’t wake up this morning. I called your name. No response. I shook your shoulder. You only groaned.”

A tiny smile appeared on Diana’s lips.

“I did?”

“You did.”

His expression became adorably offended.

“What did I say?”

Talon sighed dramatically.

“You told me…”

He lowered his voice to imitate her sleepy tone.

“Five more minutes, Talon…”

Diana blinked.

“I said that?”

“You did.”

He folded his arms.

“Then five minutes became thirty.”

“Thirty minutes became an hour.”

“And every time I tried waking you…”

He looked at her accusingly.

“You told me to let you sleep.”

“I don’t remember any of that.”

“I know.”

“You never even opened your eyes.”

“You just kept sleeping.”

His expression softened again.

“I was honestly starting to panic.”

“I nearly called a healer.”

Diana immediately raised an eyebrow.

“You what?”

“I said nearly.”

He quickly lifted both hands in surrender.

“I remembered how much you hate healers examining you without your permission.”

A smile tugged at Diana’s lips.

“Smart decision.”

“It wasn’t mine.”

“Willow stopped me.

Diana wasn’t surprised.

“What did she say?”

Talon chuckled.

“She looked at me like I was the one being unreasonable.”

His voice shifted slightly as he mimicked Willow.

“Brother, leave Diana alone. Her body is telling her she still needs rest. If you call a healer without asking her first, she’ll probably be more upset with you than grateful.”

Diana laughed.

“She knows me well.”

Talon nodded. He gently cupped her cheek.

“So… I listened.”

“You actually listened to your sister?”

“I occasionally make good decisions.”

She smiled.

“I appreciate that.”

She reached up and intertwined her fingers with his.

“I’m sorry if I worried you.”

Talon immediately shook his head.

“Don’t apologize. I’d rather worry over you sleeping than…”

His voice trailed off. Diana knew exactly what he meant.

Than losing her.

She squeezed his hand.

“I’m here.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“I know.”

He kissed her forehead again.

“But I still don’t like seeing you uncorrscious.”

A comfortable silence settled between them. Finally Diana asked,

“So… What did you do while I was sleeping?”

Talon’s expression changed. The warmth in his eyes cooled slightly.

“I went to the dungeon. With Damon.”

Diana immediately understood.

“Rafe.”

Talon nodded.

“Damon wasn’t wasting any time. He wanted to begin immediately.

Diana hesitated.

“…Did he kill him?”

Talon slowly shook his head.

“No. Not yet. And honestly… I don’t think he intends to anytime soon.”

He walked toward the nearby chair before sitting down.

“Damon is keeping every promise he made yesterday.”

His expression darkened.

“I’ve seen wolves tortured. I’ve seen rogues interrogated. I’ve watched warriors survive unimaginable pain.”

He paused.

“I have never… never… seen a wolf beg for death the way Rafe did today.”

Diana felt a chill travel down her spine. She remembered Damon’s promise. Every word. Every threat. At the time… She had believed most of it came from anger. Apparently… She had underestimated the Rogue King. Diana lowered her gaze.

“I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.”

Artemis quietly agreed.

“There is justice… And then… There is Cerberus.”

Diana looked back toward Talon.

“Did Cerberus really peel Rafe’s skin from his bones?”

Talon remained silent for several seconds. Then sighed.

“And more.

Diana’s face paled slightly.

“He brought healers.”

“What?”

“Healers. They stand beside Damon the entire time. They heal Rafe whenever his injuries become

life-threatening. They strengthen his wolf. They force his body to regenerate. So Damon can begin all over again.”

Diana closed her eyes.

“That… is terrifying.”

“It is.”

Talon leaned back in his chair.

“I’ve never seen a king so calm while doing something so brutal. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t shouting. He wasn’t raging.”

His voice lowered.

“He was smiling.”

Artemis shivered.

“Remind me never to hurt Willow.”

Diana couldn’t help laughing despite herself.

“I was thinking exactly the same thing.”

Talon actually smiled.

“So was 1.

After another moment, Diana straightened.

“All right. What happens now?”

She looked toward the window.

“Do we stay here until the Elders decide Vanessa’s punishment?”

Talon slowly shook his head.

“No. I’ve already given the Elder Council my recommendation. The final judgment belongs to them. They’ decide Vanessa’s future.”

He stood and walked back toward the bed.

“But we can’t remain in Stone Claw much longer.”

“Why?”
