The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 117

<Chapter Opened Sateen

“Are you in pain?” he asked immediately. “Should I call the healer?”

“I’m fine,” Diana said, though her voice was still soft.

“Tired. And a little poisoned,”

That earned a sharp look.

“Thorne,” Talon growled.

Diana’s eyes darkened slightly.

“Yes.”

Silence fell between them for a moment. Not empty. But full. Full of what had happened. What almost happened. Diana shifted slightly, wincing faintly.

Talon’s hand immediately tightened again.

“Careful.”

She rolled her eyes just slightly.

“I fought off a swarm of feral rogues,” she muttered. “I think I can handle sitting up.”

“Not right now, you can’t,” Talon shot back instantly.

Diana looked at him. Really looked. And there it was again. That fear. Still there. Still lingering.

Her expression softened. “…Come here,” she said quietly.

Talon didn’t hesitate. He leaned closer.

Diana lifted her hand-slowly, carefully-and rested it against his cheek.

“You didn’t fail me,” she said.

His jaw tightened.

“I should have-”

“No,” she cut him off firmly, despite her weak state.

Talon didn’t argue. Didn’t push. But she could feel it- He wasn’t fully convinced. Diana sighed softly.

“We’re alive,” she added. “That’s what matters.”

Artemis stirred faintly in agreement.

“Yes,” her wolf murmured. “We are still here.”

Diana’s thumb brushed lightly against Talon’s cheek.

“And next time…”

Her eyes sharpened just slightly.

We don’t walk into a trap:”

A faint, dangerous edge slipped into her voice.

Talon’s gaze darkened

“No,” he agreed quietly. “Next time… We make sure they regret it.”

Diana smiled faintly. There he was. Her mate. Her king.

Chapter One Hundred Seventeen

Diana drifted back to sleep not long after their conversation. It wasn’t a deep, peaceful kind of sleep. It was the kind her body demanded. The kind forced by exhaustion, by pain, by whatever remnants of poison still lingered in her system. Talon watched it happen. Watched the moment her eyes grew heavy. Watched the tension in her face slowly ease. Watched the way her breathing steadied, soft and even again. And even as relief settled in his chest-It didn’t stay. Not fully. Because he could still feel it. Through the bond. The weakness. The strain. The lingering echo of what almost took her from him. Talon sat beside her, unmoving. His hand still wrapped around hers, his thumb brushing slow, steady circles against her skin as if reminding himself- She’s here. She’s alive. She’s breathing.

The healer had said she was out of danger. But Talon didn’t trust words. Not when it came to Diana. Not when he had seen her bleeding in his arms. Not when he had felt her slipping away from him. His jaw tightened. The poison. Unknown. Potent. Something unnatural. Something not meant for wolves. He glanced down at her bandaged side. They were lucky. No-Not lucky. Diana. Her blood and Artemis. They fought it. They pushed it out. They survived. But what if they hadn’t? The thought hit him harder this time.

Sharper. More real. His chest tightened painfully. Talon closed his eyes briefly. He couldn’t- He refused- To imagine a world without her. Without her voice. Without her defiance. Without her standing beside him. Arguing with him. Challenging him. Loving him.

Fenrir stirred inside him, low and restless. “We would burn the world,” his wolf said quietly.

Talon didn’t respond. Because he knew. He would.

A knock broke the silence. Talon’s eyes snapped open instantly. His entire body tensed. A low growl rumbled from his chest. No. Not now. Diana needs rest.

Another knock. Louder this time. More insistent. Talon’s grip tightened around Diana’s hand. His eyes. flicked to the door. Suspicion. Irritation. Protectiveness. All rising at once. He carefully placed Diana’s hand back onto the bed, adjusting it gently as if even that small movement mattered. Then he stood. Slowly. Deliberately. The growl still lingering in his throat as he moved toward the door.

He opened it. And immediately saw them. The healer. Willow, Damon. And Conall. Talon’s expression hardened instantly.

“Alpha King,” the healer said respectfully. “It is time for me to check on the Luna Queen” Talon nodded

once.

“You can come in.” His gaze shifted to Willow. “You too.”

Then his eyes moved to Damon and Conall. Cold. Sharp.

“But those two-”

He lifted his chin slightly.

“They are not coming inside.”

Silence. Damon raised an eyebrow slowly. There it was. The tension. The clash of territory. Of authority. Of pride.

Damon opened his mouth, clearly ready to remind Talon exactly whose territory this was- But Willow moved first.

Her hand went to her hip, her posture shifting instantly into something firm, unyielding.

“Brother.” Her tone alone made Talon glance at her.

“This is the Rogue Kingdom,” she said clearly. Not softly. Not gently.

“This is not Black Howler.” A beat. “You are not the king here.” Her gaze flicked briefly to Damon.

“He is.”

The air in the hallway shifted. Subtle. But real.

“You don’t get to make demands here,” Willow continued. “Especially not about where he can or cannot go.”

Talon’s eyes darkened. “I don’t care,” he said without hesitation. “My mate is in that room.”

His voice dropped. Lower. More dangerous.

“And she is hurt.” A pause. “I do not trust anyone right now.” His gaze flicked back to Damon.

“If he insists on coming in…” A beat. “He will have to fight me first.”

The tension snapped. Sharp. Immediate. Conall stiffened. Damon’s expression didn’t change-But something in his eyes did. Something calculating. Something ready. And then-

“Talon?”

The voice came from inside the room. Weak. Soft. But unmistakable. Diana. Everything stopped. Talon moved instantly. No hesitation. No more tension. No more argument. He turned and crossed the room in seconds, back at her side.

“My love,” he said quickly, his voice softening completely. “You need to rest more.”

Diana blinked slowly, her gaze still heavy with sleep.

“I could hear voices…” she murmured. Her eyes shifted slightly toward the door.

“What’s going on?”

Willow stepped in then, answering before Talon could.

“Talon doesn’t want Damon or Conall inside your room,” she said plainly.
