Chapter One Hundred Sixteen

Diana’s lips parted slightly. No sound came out. But through the bond-soft, distant, exhausted- he felt her. A flicker. A warmth. A whisper.
“Talon…”
His entire body went still. Then relief crashed into him like a wave.
“I’m here,” he said quickly, leaning closer. “I’m here, my love.”
Her eyes did not open. But the bond pulsed once. Weak. Alive. Enough. Talon pressed a trembling kiss to her hand.
“That’s it,” he whispered. “Stay with me.”
Another pause. Then, faintly through the bond, Diana’s presence brushed against his. Tired. Pained. Still stubborn.
“Stop… growling…”
Talon almost laughed. Almost. Instead, his eyes burned.
“I am not growling.”
Fenrir huffed.
“We were growling.”Talon ignored him.
Diana’s lips barely moved, but through the bond her words came softer.
“Liar.”
The sound that left Talon was half laugh, half broken breath. Even half-conscious, poisoned, and injured- she was still Diana.
Still his. He leaned forward, brushing his lips against her forehead.
“Rest,” he whispered. “You can insult me properly when you wake up.”
The bond quieted again. But this time, it did not feel empty. It felt like sleep. Healing. Talon stayed exactly where he was.
One hand holding hers. The other resting near her shoulder. Guarding. Waiting.
Because Thorne was still out there. The ferals were still being made. Rafe might still be moving through shadows. The world outside this room was shifting into something darker than any of them understood.
But for now- Diana was alive. And Talon would hold that truth like a vow.
He looked down at her, his voice low and deadly.
“Sleep, my Luna.” His eyes darkened.

“And when you wake..” A pause. “I will find the one who did this.” Fenrir rose again inside him.
“And we will make him pay.” Talon’s thumb brushed over Diaria’s hand.
“Yes,” he whispered. “We will

Diana woke slowly. The first thing she saw was white. A ceiling. Unfamiliar. For a moment, she didn’t move. Didn’t think. Just… existed. Then-It hit ker. The bond. Warm. Familiar. Anchoring. Talon. It wrapped around her like something alive-steady, strong, but threaded with something heavier beneath it. Pain. Guilt. Fear. Diana’s brows pulled together slightly as her mind began to catch up. Memory flickered. The forest. The ferals. The endless waves of rogues. The sharp, unnatural spike of earth- And then- Poison.
Dark. Burning through her veins. She inhaled slowly. Her body felt heavy. Not broken-But drained. Like something had tried to take everything from her… and failed. Her eyes shifted. And there he was. Talon. Leaning forward at her bedside, his head resting near the edge of the mattress, eyes closed. Asleep. But even in sleep- He was holding her hand. Firmly. Like letting go wasn’t an option. Like it never would be. Diana stared at him quietly. Taking him in. His usually composed, commanding presence was gone. Replaced by something raw. His hair was slightly disheveled, his jaw tight even in rest, dark circles faint beneath his eyes. He looked… Exhausted.
“Artemis?” Diana called softly in their shared mind. There was a pause. Then-
“I am here.”
Her wolf’s voice was quieter than usual. Not weak-But tired.
“I am fine,” Artemis continued after a moment. “Tired… but fine.”
Diana exhaled slowly in relief.
“The poison?” she asked.
Artemis shifted slightly in their shared space.
“It was not normal.”
Her tone sharpened slightly, analytical now despite her fatigue.
“When that spike of earth pierced us… the poison came with it.”
A pause.
“But not like wolfsbane.” Diana frowned faintly.
“Injected?” she asked.
“Yes,” Artemis confirmed. “As if the earth itself carried it. Or was made to carry it.”
Another pause. “I do not know how.”
Diana’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Magic,” she murmured internally.

Artemis did not disagree.
“It is different,” her wolf continued. “I have never felt anything like it.”
A brief silence passed between them. Then Arternis added quietly-
“It tried to shut us down.”
Diana’s chest tightened slightly.
“But it failed,” she said.
Artemis huffed softly. “Yes.”
A faint edge of pride returned to her voice.
“Our blood processed it.” A pause.
“Slowly. But it pushed it out.”
Diana’s gaze drifted back to the ceiling.
“Yes…” Then softer- “We are lucky.”
Artemis didn’t answer immediately.
When she did, her voice carried something thoughtful.
“… Or it is not luck.”
Diana’s eyes flickered slightly.
“You think it is because of what we are?”
Artemis shifted. “Silver Wolf,” she said simply.
Diana let the words settle. The title. The mystery. The target painted on her back.
“… Maybe,” Diana admitted quietly.

Silence stretched between them for a moment. Then Artemis spoke again. But this time- Her attention wasn’t on the poison. Or the battle. It was on him.
“I can feel him.” Diana didn’t need to ask who. Talon.
“Our mate… Artemis continued softly. Diana’s eyes moved back to him. To the way his fingers still wrapped around hers. Even in sleep.
“He is in pain,” Artemis said. A pause.
“Guilt.” Another. “Fear.”
Diana’s chest tightened.
“He thinks he failed us,” Artemis added.
