The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 109

Chapter One Hundred Nine

Clam

The forest had gone unnaturally still. Not quiet-no, never quiet. The feral rogues still circled them, their snarls low, their movements festless. But there was something different now… something heavier pressing down on the air itself. Darker. Colder. Diana stilled mid-breath, her grip tightening around her katana. Her senses sharpened. Her instincts screamed.

We are being watched.

Her voice slipped into the bond between her and Talon.

But not like before…

A pause.

This is different.

Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the shifting shadows.

It’s darker… dangerous.

Talon’s aura flared in response, low and controlled-but lethal.

We might need to run, he answered immediately.

There was no pride in his tone. Only calculation.

We cannot fight all these ferals… and whatever is controlling them.

Diana shifted smoothly-Artemis surging forward for a brief second as she tore through another rogue before returning to human form. Her breathing remained steady. But her mind was racing.

You think the one watching is their creator? she asked.

A beat.

Yes.

The answer came without hesitation. Talon didn’t wait. Fenrir surged forward again-massive jaws crushing through the rogue in front of him, sending the body flying. But even as he fought-He felt it. That presence. Closer now.

We have to run-now, Talon urged again.

Diana opened her mouth to respond-Then- Everything changed. A dark mist began to gather at the edge of the clearing. Not natural. Not wind. Not shadow. Something else. The feral rogues reacted instantly. Not with confusion-Not with chaos- With obedience. They parted. Moved aside. Creating a path. And from that path- A figure emerged. Tall. Still. Wrapped in a dark cloak that seemed to swallow the faint moonlight. His presence alone shifted the battlefield.

Diana felt Artemis rise violently beneath her skin.

This one is not like the others.

“No…” Diana whispered under her breath.

Because she knew. This was not just a watcher. This was the source. The man stopped a few feet away from them. And then He smiled. “I cannot believe it…” His voice was smooth. Almost amused.

“You really are the Silver Wolf.”

Talon stepped forward slightly, placing himself just half a step ahead of Diana. Protective. Instinctive. The man’s gaze flicked to him- Dismissive.

“It is… unfortunate,” he continued.

A slow tilt of his head.

“That you are so careless.”

His eyes returned to Diana. Dark. Hungry.

“Sad for you, of course.”

A faint smile curved his lips.

“But for me…”

A pause.

“Your carelessness is an answered prayer.”

Diana didn’t flinch. Didn’t step back.

“I can kill the Silver Wolf tonight…”

His voice dropped slightly.

“And she walked straight to me.”

Silence.

“Who are you?” Talon demanded.

The man let out a soft chuckle.

“Does it matter?”

A step forward. The rogues behind him tensed-but did not move.

“You will both be dead before the night ends.”

Another pause.

“But…”

A slight incline of his head.

“I can be gracious.”

His gaze flicked between them.

“You brought her to me.”

And then-He spoke his name.

“Thorne.”

The air itself seemed to tighten.

“Of the Midnight Oracle.”

Diana’s eyes narrowed. Magic. Ancient.

“What do you want?” she asked.

Thome smiled again. Slow. Unsettling.

“From the king?”

A dismissive glance at Talon.

“Nothing.”

Then-His full attention returned to her.

“But from you…”

A pause.

“The Silver Wolf…

His expression hardened.

“I need you to die.”

The words landed like a blade.

“Why?” Diana asked.

Not fear. Not hesitation. Just… truth.

Thorne’s smile widened.

“Because you are a problem.”

A step closer.

“You are destined to unite the wolves.”

His eyes gleamed – Dark satisfaction flickering within them.

“And I want them destroyed.”

Silence.

have watched them for centuries,” he continued. “Pack against pack. Alpha against Alpha. Betrayal. Blood. Weakness disguised as loyalty.”

A low chuckle escaped him.

“They are far more entertaining when they tear each other apart.”

His gaze sharpened.

“And you…”

A slow breath.

“You threaten that.”

Diana didn’t move.

“Then you should have stayed hidden,” she said quietly.

That made him laugh.

“Oh, I did.”

A beat.

“For a very long time.”

His eyes darkened slightly.

“But something changed.”

A flicker-Barely noticeable-Crossed his face.

“Something worth risking exposure.”

Diana’s gaze sharpened.

“Creating ferals?”

Thorne smiled.

“Enhancing them.”

A wave of his hand- And the rogues behind him growled in unison.

“Breaking them down… Stripping away what little control they have… Amplifying their hunger…”

His voice lowered.

“Turning them into something useful.”

Talon’s aura surged violently.

“You’re killing wolves.”

Thorne shrugged.

They were already broken.”

A pause.

“I simply… gave them purpose.

Diana’s grip tightened around her sword.

“You’re wrong.”

Thorne tilted his head.

“Am I?”

A beat.

“Because from where I stand…”

His gaze flicked between them- Then hardened.

“You walked into my trap.”

The air shifted again- Darker. Heavier. And then- He raised his hand. Magic gathered instantly. Dark. Violent. Twisting the air itself. Diana felt it-The surge of power.

He’s going to attack-

But before the energy could release-

“Thorne.”

Clam

The voice cut through the clearing like a blade. Everything stopped. Even the magic. Thorne’s hand froze mid-air. Slowly- Very slowly- He turned. From the shadows- Another figure stepped forward. Clad in white. Hair streaked with silver. Eyes filled with something that did not belong on a battlefield. Sadness. Diana’s breath caught. It was her. The same woman. The one who warned them. She stepped closer. Not toward Diana. Not toward Talon. Toward Thorne.

“Stop this.”

і

Her voice was soft. But it carried weight. Power. Emotion. Thorne’s expression shifted- For the first time. Not anger. Something… complicated.

“You shouldn’t be here, Ravenna.” he said quietly.

Ravenna shook her head.

“Neither should you.”

A step closer.

“Come back.”

The words were simple. But they held everything.

“To the coven.”
