The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 101

Chapter One Hundred One

Clu

The sun was already beginning to dip behind the mountains, casting long shadows across the grounds of Black Howler Pack. The early evening air carried a calm that felt… undeserved.

Too quiet.

Too still.

As if the world itself was holding its breath.

It had been a week.

A full week since Damon and Willow received a call from Damon and Willow and was informed about Kira

and her family.

A week of waiting.

Watching.

Searching for answers that refused to reveal themselves.

Inside the Alpha office, Talon stood near the large window, his arms crossed over his chest as he looked out over his territory.

Warriors were training in the distance.

Pups were being called back by their parents.

Life continued.

But beneath it-

Something was wrong.

Behind him, Diana sat at the long table, a series of reports spread in front of her. Her fingers tapped lightly against the parchment, her brows slightly furrowed.

Not frustrated.

Focused.

“It’s been a week,” Talon finally said, breaking the silence.

Diana didn’t look up immediately.

“I know.”

His voice lowered.

“And we still have nothing.”

That made her pause.

Then she leaned back slightly, lifting her gaze to meet his.

“Not nothing,” she corrected quietly.

“A pattern.”

Talon turned from the window.

“What pattern?”

Diana gestured toward the papers.

“No confirmation.”

“Every inquiry Enzo and Galvin made… was deflected.”

A pause.

“No one from Stone Claw Pack is willing to confirm if Vanessa has found her mate.”

Her eyes darkened slightly.

“And more importantly…”

“No one is willing to deny it either.”

Talon’s jaw tightened.

“They’re hiding something.”

“Yes.”

Diana didn’t hesitate.

“They are.”

Silence stretched between them again.

But this time-

It wasn’t uncertainty.

It was understanding.

Talon walked toward the table slowly, his movements controlled but deliberate.

“Enzo tried subtle inquiries through the trade routes,” he said.

“Galvin used warrior connections.”

A pause.

“Nothing.”

Diana nodded.

They’re being careful.”

“Too careful.”

That was what made it worse.

If it had been a simple matter-

There would have been answers.

Denials.

Even rumors.

But this?

This was controlled silence.

Talon leaned his hands on the table, staring down at the reports.

“Do you think we need to go there ourselves?”

Diana’s eyes flickered up.

“To Stone Claw?”

“Yes.”

His tone sharpened slightly.

“We can frame it as a routine check.”

A pause.

“Security inspections. Rogue movement.”

He exhaled slowly.

“We visit multiple packs so it doesn’t look targeted.”

Another pause.

“But we make sure we see them.”

Diana studied him quietly.

“You want to confirm it yourself.”

It wasn’t a question.

Talon didn’t deny it.

“If Rafe is there…”

His voice hardened.

Inced to know.”

Diana didn’t respond right away.

She rose slowly from her seat, walking toward him.

Measured.

Careful.

When she spoke, her tone was calm-

But firm.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Talon’s brows furrowed.

“Why?”

“Because we don’t have enough information.”

She stopped in front of him, her gaze steady.

“If it is Rafe…”

A pause.

“What exactly are we going to do?”

That made Talon pause.

Just slightly.

“If he’s truly mated to Vanessa…”

Diana continued.

“Do we have the right to act?”

Her voice didn’t rise.

Didn’t push.

But the question landed.

Hard.

“And if he knows we’re coming…

Her eyes darkened.

“Then we are walking straight into a trap.”

Silence.

Talon straightened slowly, processing her words.

“We can’t just do nothing.”

“We’re not doing nothing.

Diana’s voice softened slightly.

“We’re being careful.”

A pause.

“There’s a difference.”

She turned slightly, walking toward the window now, mirroring where he had stood momerits ago.

“We don’t know who the real enemy is.”

Her gaze swept over the training grounds.

“Is it Rafe alone?”

“Or is he being protected?”

A pause.

“Are Alpha Charles and Luna Carla aware of what’s happening?”

Her voice lowered slightly.

“Or are they being manipulated by their own daughter?”

That thought lingered.

Dangerous.

Talon’s hands curled slightly at his sides.

“If they know…”

He didn’t finish the sentence.

He didn’t need to.

Diana glanced back at him.

“And if they don’t?”

Another question.

Another weight.

Talon exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair.

“Then we’re dealing with something even worse.”

Diana nodded.

“A divided leadership

“A hidden threat.”

“And a wolf who already tried to kill me…

Her voice remained calm.

But Talon felt it.

The quiet danger behind it.

“We cannot walk blindly into that.”

Silence settled again.

This time longer.

The sun dipped lower.

The room grew dimmer.

Finally-

Talon spoke.

“You’re right.”
