Chapter One Hundred

The line went dead.

The silence that followed wasn’t empty-

It was heavy.

In the Rogue King’s office, no one moved for several long seconds.

Damon stood still, the phone still in his hand, his gaze fixed somewhere beyond the wall as if he could still hear the echoes of the conversation.

Beside him, Willow lowered her hand slowly, her fingers curling slightly as if letting go of something she hadn’t realized she was holding onto.

Behind them, Conall shifted his weight.

Once.

Twice.

Then finally exhaled.

That.” Conall muttered under his breath, “went better than I expected.”

Willow let out a soft, humorless breath.

“Did it?”

She didn’t look at either of them.

Didn’t need to.

“Because from where I’m standing…”

A pause.

“My brother still wants to kill you.”

Damon huffed out a faint breath-something close to a dry laugh.

“That hasn’t changed since the day he met me.”

“That’s not funny,” Willow said quietly.

Damon’s expression sobered immediately.

“I know.”

Silence stretched again.

But this time-

It shifted.

Less hostile.

Damon finally lowered the phone onto the table.

“We don’t have much time.”

His tone changed-back to the king.

Focused.

Strategic.

“If Kira’s story is true…”

A pause.

“And if Vanessa’s mate is connected to what happened to you…”

His jaw tightened.

“Then this is no longer just a Stone Claw problem.”

“It’s bigger.”

Willow finally looked at him.

“You think it’s him.”

Not a question.

A realization.

Damon nodded once.

“Rafe.”

The name settled heavily in the room.

“He’s smart enough to hide.”

Damon continued.

“Desperate enough to take risks.”

“And unstable enough to target anyone connected to Diana.”

Willow’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“Then why target Kira?”

Damon didn’t hesitate.

“Because she heard something.”

A pause.-

“And he doesn’t leave loose ends.”

Conall stepped forward slightly.

“And if he’s using Vanessa..

His voice darkened.

“Then he has access to an entire pack.”

Willow’s stomach twisted slightly at that thought.

“Which means…”

She looked between them.

“He’s not just hiding.”

“He’s building something.”

Silence followed.

Not uncertain.

Not confused.

Just… dangerous.

Back in Black Howler-

Diana slowly lowered the phone from her ear.

Her expression remained calm.

But her eyes-

Sharp.

Calculating.

Talon was not nearly as composed.

“He’s still alive.”

The words came out low.

Controlled.

But barely.

“And he’s hiding in another Alpha’s pack.”

His aura flared for a brief second-just enough to make the walls feel smaller.

Diana didn’t argue.

“He escaped,” she said simply.

“That’s not on you.”

Talon exhaled sharply.

“No.”

His voice hardened.

“But letting Damon take him is.”

Diana didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, she stepped closer-

Placed her hand lightly over his.

“Talon.”

He stilled.

“If you start placing blame on everything that went wrong…”

A pause.

“You’ll miss what’s happening now.”

He looked at her.

“And what’s happening now,” she continued softly, “is that someone is targeting wolves connected to us.”

Another pause.

“And we don’t know how far it goes.”

Talon’s jaw clenched.

But his anger-

Shifted.

Focused.

“We need to prepare.”

Diana nodded.

“And we need information.”

A brief glance toward the door.

“Enzo and Galvin can continue tracking movement from the allied packs.”

Talon nodded once.

“And Stone Claw?”

Diana’s eyes darkened slightly.

“We don’t act yet.”

A pause.

“Not without proof.”

“And not without Kira’s decision.”

Back in the Rogue Kingdom-

Willow leaned against the edge of Damon’s desk, arms crossing slowly over her chest.

“So what’s the plan?”

Her tone was calm.

But there was steel underneath it.

Damon looked at her.

Really looked at her.

Not just as his mate.

Not just as the sister of an Alpha King.

But as someone who was choosing-

Despite everything-

To stand beside him.

“We protect them.”

Simple.

Direct.

“Kira. Blaze. Her family.”

A pause.

“And we find Rafe.”

Conall nodded immediately.

“I’ll double the patrols at the border.”

Damon nodded.

“And no one enters the pack without being screened.”

His eyes hardened.

“No exceptions.”

Willow watched them for a moment.

“I’ll stay with Kira.”

Both males turned toward her.

“She trusts me,” Willow continued.

“And she’s more likely to tell me things she might not say to you.”

Damon frowned slightly.

“It could be dangerous.”

Willow raised a brow.

“Everything right now is dangerous.”

A pause.

“But I won’t be alone.”

Her gaze flickered briefly toward Conall.

“And neither will she.”

Conall straightened slightly at that.

“I won’t let anything happen to her.”

The conviction in his voice was immediate.
