With the chaos finally cleared from the room, Danny cannot hold back any longer. He levels a fierce, uncompromising glare at his future bride.
It is the first time he has ever spoken to her with such raw, unbridled severity. Yes, they had agreed to set a trap to draw the snake out of its hole. But at no point did they agree that she would act as the literal bait, putting herself directly in the line of fire.
Sure, the plan was a massive success, but the mere thought of what could have happened makes Danny physically sick. What if the police had been a minute too late? What if Victor had pulled a trigger the second she walked in?
A cold sweat breaks out across Danny's back. He grips her arms, his fingers curling tightly around her biceps, his knuckles turning white. He cannot even bear to picture a world without her in it. The thought of losing her is a suffocating weight on his chest.
"I'm sorry," Tara murmurs, realizing just how badly she terrified him. She reaches out, gently tracing the center of his palm in a sweet, coaxing gesture. She knows exactly how dangerous her gamble was. One misstep, and she would have been dead. But the opportunity to finally drag her father's killer into the light was too crucial to pass up.
She can feel the slight tremor in Danny's hands. The fear in his eyes is painfully real.
Tara lowers her gaze, her long eyelashes casting soft shadows over her cheeks as she leans into his chest. "Danny, I know I scared you. I really am sorry. I promise I won't do it again."
Between her sweet-talking and gentle touches, the rigid tension in Danny's jaw finally begins to soften.
But just as she manages to pacify her fiancé, Joseph clears his throat loudly.
"You had absolutely no right to be so reckless! It was incredibly foolish, Tara!"
