"If we aren't talking about money, what the hell are we talking about? Romance? Because looking at you makes me want to throw up," Alec sneers. Even if they weren't blood-related, the idea of being affectionate with her turns his stomach.

"That's not what I meant!" Jade cries, her face burning. Desperate, she scrambles for an excuse. "I... I spent it! All of it! I can't just give it back to you right now. Just give me some time, I swear I'll pay you back. Have I ever lied to you?"
