Unlike Bianca and Coen, Tara and Danny aren't quite as captivated by the telescope. While the starlit sky is undeniably gorgeous, draping the landscape in a veil of mystery, the initial awe eventually fades.
Instead of standing around, they slip away from the group, fingers intertwined as they wander into the quiet darkness. The remote wilderness doesn't offer much in terms of sightseeing, but the night is alive with the rustling of insects and the calls of unseen animals.
"Don't walk too far away from me," Tara murmurs, gripping his hand tighter. "It's actually kind of creepy out here."
Danny happily pulls her closer. He loves it when she relies on him. Every time a strange bird calls out and she flinches against his side, his heart swells with affection.
"What are you smiling about?" Tara narrows her eyes at him, catching his amused grin. She knows that look; he is definitely thinking about something mischievous.
As they stroll further, a cluster of tiny, blinking lights catches Tara's attention. Her eyes widen in delight, and she pulls him toward the glowing brush. "Fireflies! I didn't think we'd see any out here."
She wades slightly into the damp grass, watching the soft golden specks drift through the cool air. A serene, joyful smile graces her face.
"We're far enough from the city, and the ground here is moist. It's the perfect environment for them," Danny says. He doesn't particularly care about the bugs, but seeing her face light up with such pure happiness makes the entire trip worth it.
"When I used to train under my mentor at the lab on Solitude Isle, the woods were full of them," Tara shares, pulling out her phone to capture the flickering lights. "There were so many more than this. It looked like a glittering silver river flowing through the trees. It was breathtaking. Everything felt so raw and untouched back then... I actually miss it sometimes."
"Stop it," Tara whispers, a flush creeping up her neck. Even though they have been together for a while and share a deep intimacy, the sheer devotion burning in his gaze still makes her shy.
"Come on, let's head back. It's going to get freezing out here soon," Danny says softly, taking her hand and leading her back toward the glowing tents of the campsite.
He walks her directly to her tent, pulling back the flap and meticulously arranging her blankets to ensure she will be warm. Only when he is completely satisfied does he step back to head to his own tent. He would give anything to sleep beside her tonight, but he knows better. If he tries to climb into her sleeping bag out here in front of her employees, she will physically kick him out.
"He really thinks of everything," Tara murmurs to herself, lying down and pulling the heavy blankets to her chin.
