Stepping out of her building, Tara instantly recognizes the limited-edition Rolls-Royce idling by the curb.
The tinted window glides down smoothly, revealing a strikingly handsome face.
"Get in," Danny says, a confident smirk playing on his lips.
Tara isn't the least bit surprised. There is only one man in the city who casually drives that car.
"What are you doing here?" she asks, sliding into the plush leather passenger seat.
She rarely rejects his invitations anymore.
"Taking you to the Sinclair estate, of course," he answers smoothly.
"You knew exactly where I was going, and you timed it down to the minute?"
"Naturally. You pulled Lindsay out of a coma. It was guaranteed they'd roll out the red carpet to thank you today."
Danny is in an exceptionally good mood. He feels the ice between them melting, sensing a genuine shift in their dynamic. He knows he needs to strike while the iron is hot.
"So, you're just crashing the party?" Tara raises an eyebrow.
"It's hardly crashing. The Calhouns and Sinclairs are close. I have an open invitation," he says, pausing just long enough for dramatic effect. He leans slightly closer, his dark eyes locking onto hers. "Besides, accompanying my girlfriend is perfectly justified."
The word slips out so naturally that Tara's pulse spikes. "Who said I was your girlfriend?" she fires back, her heart hammering against her ribs.
"Well, you haven't succeeded yet!"
"Fair enough. I'll just keep pretending until it magically comes true," he says, utterly unbothered.
Tara stares at him, momentarily speechless. She has absolutely no defense against his weaponized charm.
Deciding surrender is the best option, she shuts her eyes, leans back against the headrest, and ignores him.
Danny's eyes crinkle with quiet amusement, his chest swelling with victory. He is already laying the groundwork in his mind.
He needs the perfect moment for a formal confession. Knowing Tara's guarded nature, if he doesn't make it monumental and undeniable, she will convince herself it's just a game. He intends to give her a grand, deeply serious declaration to ensure she officially accepts his heart.
