Tara reserves judgment on Julianna's mindset—after all, every family has its own complicated dynamics. But if this woman wants to target her directly, Tara isn't about to play the saint.
Julianna's expression stiffens slightly at being seen through, but she quickly recovers her composure. "You misunderstand, Miss Dennis. We are all Grandma's family. We would never act the way you suggest."
"What nonsense are you spouting? How could we just stand by and do nothing? Don't you dare slander us!" Bonnie yells.
"She is in critical condition," Tara says, ignoring their defensive outbursts. "She's showing clear signs of a stroke and a cerebral hemorrhage. I need to administer acupuncture immediately." She doesn't want to waste breath on them; saving a life is the priority. She swiftly pulls a set of silver needles from her bag, sanitizes them, and prepares to begin.
Julianna rushes forward to block her. "You're a complete amateur. What do you know about acupuncture? If something goes wrong, who bears the responsibility?"
Tara frowns, leveling a cold glare at her. "If you know how to save her, do it. If you don't, step aside and stop getting in my way."
"You claim you know acupuncture, but who can prove it?" Bonnie sneers, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "For all we know, you're using this as an excuse to harm my grandmother. It's ridiculous. Some quack doctor who picked up a few parlor tricks wants to use my grandmother as a guinea pig?"
"Ha! She studied medicine and has exceptional skills? Don't make me laugh," Bonnie scoffs, resting her hands on her hips in defiance. "Since when does the medical field have a nobody like her? I've certainly never heard of her! Don't let her fool you, Danny. She's nothing but a compulsive liar. If she were really that skilled, why isn't she working at a major hospital? Why hasn't she published any papers in medical journals? She's probably just a half-wit trying to put on a show."
Seeing Danny blindly defend Tara the second he arrives sends a sharp pang of jealousy through Julianna's chest. Unable to hold back, she chimes in. "Grandma's body can't handle her reckless tampering. If something goes wrong, we won't be able to face the rest of the family."
"Mrs. Sinclair is in critical condition, and only Tara can save her," Danny shoots back. "If you delay her treatment and something terrible happens, can you shoulder that responsibility?"
