Tara shoots Danny an exasperated glare. This man is acting incredibly childish.
"But we already—" Nathaniel starts.
"It's fine, Nathaniel. Let it go. It's just one more person. He can stay," Tara cuts in. She knows full well that once this stubborn man decides to plant himself in a chair, it would take an army to move him.
"But..."
"It's really fine," Tara insists. "The Calhoun Corporation and the Dennis Group have plenty of overlapping business anyway. If he wants to sit here, let him."
Since Tara is putting her foot down, Nathaniel has no choice but to bite his tongue.
"You are always so good to me," Danny says, his eyes gleaming as he affectionately pinches her cheek. Then, with practiced ease, he snaps on a pair of gloves and begins quietly peeling shrimp and extracting crab meat, placing the perfect morsels directly onto her plate. To Nathaniel's utter horror, Tara doesn't reject him. She just picks up her fork and eats the seafood naturally, without a second thought.
Their silent, domestic intimacy is a brutal punch to Nathaniel's gut. It burns. It is absolute torture to watch.
"Lunch is on me today. Don't hold back, order whatever you want," Danny says to Nathaniel, flashing him a devastatingly smug smile.
"I'm fine." Nathaniel has completely lost his appetite. How is he supposed to stomach food while watching them act like a married couple? He grabs his water glass and takes a heavy gulp, desperately trying to cool his rising temper.
Nathaniel's face goes dark. He never expected her to agree so quickly, and the sting of defeat settles heavily in his chest. Danny's lips curl into a triumphant smirk, clearly anticipating exactly how she would react. He shoots Nathaniel a deeply condescending look that practically screams, 'You can't stop me.'
Completely oblivious to the raging testosterone war happening around her, Tara is solely focused on that twenty percent profit margin. That kind of money could massively boost her agency and secure top-tier resources for her rising stars. It's an absolute win.
Danny smoothly covers the bill, leaving Nathaniel to drive back to the office alone and utterly defeated. The billionaire is immensely satisfied with his victory.
As soon as Tara slides into the passenger seat of Danny's sleek car, she turns to him. "You got what you wanted, didn't you? You are so ridiculous. Why are you picking fights with Nathaniel? I swear I don't understand you sometimes." Honestly, she only agreed to leave with him because she knew if she didn't, he would have dragged this out all afternoon.
