"Oh, you definitely need to feed her well! It's so hard to get a wife these days," one vendor chimes in enthusiastically.
"Tell me about it! Just finding a girl willing to date is a miracle for young men today," another woman adds.
Once the topic shifts to modern dating, the market women unleash a flood of opinions.
"Is... is it really that serious?" Katie asks, genuinely startled. Has spending all her time in the lab completely disconnected her from the outside world?
"Absolutely! Nowadays, getting a daughter-in-law requires a big wedding, a new car, and a house. Otherwise, no girl will look twice!"
"Exactly. And the money isn't even the half of it. The mother-in-law has to keep her mouth shut and never interfere."
"Not to mention you have to babysit for free, cook, and clean the house! It's exhausting."
Katie listens in sheer horror, seriously analyzing the situation. She immediately comes to one terrifying conclusion: simply hiring maids and a nanny won't show enough sincerity. She has to do the heavy lifting herself!
"What am I going to do?" she blurts out in a panic. "My son is completely useless! He doesn't know how to cook, he never does chores, and he's incredibly arrogant and aloof! He has no redeeming qualities at home!"
Danny grew up surrounded by elite chefs and maids in the Calhoun estate. Between his high-society upbringing and his relentless CEO schedule, he has developed a cold, untouchable personality. He is practically dead weight as a domestic partner.
The vendors immediately treat her like a sister in arms.
As soon as she steps through the grand entrance, Katie rushes out to greet her. "Tara! I'm so happy you're here. I've missed you!"
"Hello, Mrs. Calhoun," Tara smiles. "It hasn't been that long, has it?" It hasn't even been a week since they met at the gala.
"Oh, you don't understand. A single day apart feels like an eternity," Katie laughs, linking her arm affectionately through Tara's. She hands Tara's gifts to the butler. "You really didn't need to spend your money on gifts."
"It's just a small token," Tara replies warmly. It's only polite to bring a gift when visiting someone's home—unless she is visiting the Dennis family.
Katie mutters under her breath, "Still costs money. I need to make Danny spoil you more."
