The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 557

Danny looks at her with a bright smile, secretly hoping she actually is jealous. If she is, things will be much easier. His biggest fear is that she doesn't care at all.

His counter-question leaves Tara momentarily speechless. She tries to tease him, but ends up getting teased instead. Still, she takes a moment to seriously consider his question. She realizes that her feelings toward the man standing in front of her are undeniably different from how she feels about anyone else.

Danny wants to press further, but his assistant suddenly appears and whispers something in his ear. His brows furrow in concentration.

"Something you need to handle? Go ahead. I want to take a walk around by myself anyway," Tara says, easily guessing the situation. As the CEO of a massive corporation, he probably wishes he could clone himself to handle his workload. The fact that he has stayed by her side for this long today is already a miracle.

Danny looks at her with an affectionate smile. She understands him perfectly, just as always. Sometimes, the silent mutual understanding between two people is more important than anything else. "Yeah, I need to step away for a bit to make a call and handle some business. I'll come find you later."

He reaches out, gently ruffling her hair and giving her cheek a soft pinch. She is so soft and adorable! It is the first time he has ever pinched a woman's cheek or patted her head, let alone the woman he has feelings for. Blushing at his own boldness, he quickly turns and hurries away.

She noticed Jovani's eyes light up the moment she saw Professor Howard's group arrive. That expression was far from simple. It definitely wasn't just the awe of seeing a renowned academic. It looked like a very specific kind of anticipation.

Tara racks her brain. Who else arrived with Mr. Howard? Charles and Jake were definitely there, but they have such a low presence that Jovani couldn't possibly make that face because of them. Besides, she is very familiar with the Dennis family, especially Charles, whom she can see anytime. There is no reason for her to lose her composure over seeing them at a banquet. If not them, then who?

There is something else Tara finds intriguing. Before she can fully puzzle it out, she notices someone ahead.
