Chapter 235: Picking his son-2

As soon as the stairs towered, Enzo came bounding up into the cabin. He threw his bag into an empty seat and sat down directly across from me, his eyes wide with excitement

“Dad!” Enzo said, leaning forward. “You actually did it. You had dinner with them. Tell me everything. How is she? Did she look like she did when I visited her?”

“Calm down, Enzo,” I said, a small smile breaking through my serious expression. “Take a seat first.”

“I can’t sit still,” Enzo said, shaking his head. “When you texted me that she invited you to meet Caleb, I almost dropped my phone. I told you she was amazing when I went to see her at her office. I am glad she is finally introducing her husband to you.”

“She does look amazing,” I agreed, my voice softening as I remembered the hug outside the restaurant. “She looks exactly like Elaine. She has her mother’s eyes. But she is also very sharp. She is a true Marchetti when it comes to business.”

Enzo laughed, a bright, easy sound. “Of course she is. She runs an international empire, Dad. But what about Caleb? This was your first time actually meeting him. Was he there? Did he try to act tough?”

“Caleb was there,” I replied, folding my hands on the table. “He was quiet. Respectful. I have met Bella twice before this, but tonight was all about seeing the man she chose. He knows he made terrible mistakes in the past, and he is trying to earn her trust back. I asked him what his intentions were.”

Enzo raised an eyebrow, looking amused. “And? What did the great Caleb Black say to that?”

“He said his goal is to spend his life earning her trust. He looked me dead in the eye when he said it. I believe he meant it.”

The pilot walked into the cabin, bowing slightly. “Mr. Marchetti, we are fully fueled and ready to depart for Lyon. Young Mr. Enzo’s baggage is secured.”

“Take us home,” I told him.

The pilot nodded and returned to the cockpit. The plane began to move again, rising back into the night sky toward our final destination.

Enzo looked over at my phone, which was still open to the file. “Are you still reading that investigator report?”

“I am,” I sighed, rubbing my temples. “The more I read, the more I realize how much we have to make it up to her. And we need to prepare the family. Olivier is going to be a problem.”

Enzo’s expression turned serious, his easy smile fading. “Yeah. Olivier is not going to like this at all. He thinks the Marchetti Group belongs entirely to him. Have you called him yet?”

“No,” I admitted. “I wanted to wait until we were on the ground in Lyon. I do not want to handle his anger over a phone call.”

“He is going to freak out, Dad,” Enzo warned, leaning back in his seat. “Camille is probably whispering in his ear right now too. You know how she is. She wants to be the next big matriarch of the family, and Bella’s arrival throws a massive wrench into her plans.”

“Camille does not scare me,” I said coldly. “And Olivier will learn to accept his sister, or he will find himself removed from the succession entirely. I will not tolerate any disrespect toward Bella or my grandchildren.”

Enzo looked at me for a long moment, a soft expression on his face. “I’m glad you’re doing this, Dad. Bella deserves a real family. And Tom… man, that kid is a genius.”

I let out a low chuckle. “He definitely takes after his mother.”
