Your Highness-1
Iva’s hands trembled.
But not from weakness.
From everything she was holding back.
Clam
With a sudden, sharp movement, she pushed Caleb away from her, the force catching him completely off guard, his body shifting back half a step as surprise flickered across his face.
For the first time since he had walked into that apartment-
He hadn’t expected her reaction.
Her fingers flew to her lips, as if she could still feel the burn of his kiss, as if she needed to erase it, to ground herself, to remind her body of what her mind was screaming.
Her eyes lifted to his.
Hard.
Unforgiving.
Filled with something far deeper than anger.
Hurt.
“How dare you…” she said, her voice low at first, but trembling with intensity.
Caleb frowned slightly, confusion mixing with the fading heat of the moment.
“Iva-”
She didn’t let him finish.
“How dare you kiss me like that,” she continued, her voice rising now, sharp and breaking at the edges,” when you’ve been with someone else?”
The words hit.
And for a second-
Caleb froze.
Completely.
r
“… What?” he asked, the word leaving his lips slowly, his brows pulling together as something unfamiliar crept into his expression.
Confusion.
Real.

“How did you,” he stopped himself, his gaze sharpening suddenly. “How do you know?”
Sonia’s name echoed silently in his mind. But how did she find out?
Iva let out a short, hollow laugh.
The sound didn’t carry humor.
It carried pain.
“So it’s true,” she said, her voice cracking despite her effort to stay strong.
Her eyes glistened now, tears forming faster than she could stop them, betraying everything she was trying so hard to contain.
She shook her head slightly, as if disappointed, as if something inside her had just confirmed the worst.
“Of course it is…”
Caleb stepped forward instinctively. “Iva, listen-”
“No!” she snapped, pushing him again, harder this time.
And this time-
He let her.
Just enough.
Enough for her to slip past him.
Enough for her to move.
She turned quickly, her steps fast and uneven as she headed toward the door, her breathing shallow, her vision blurring as tears finally spilled over.
“It was a mistake…” she said, her voice trembling but loud enough to cut through the room. “Bringing me here… all of this…”
Her hand reached for the door.
“Everything was just a big mistake.”
Caleb’s chest tightened.
Something about the way she said it-
The finality.
The pain.
It hit deeper than he expected, as he felt his chest squeezing.

“I’m not forcing you,” she continued, her voice softer now, but somehow even more painful, “to accept me

The words pierced through him.
“But don’t insult me…” she added, her voice breaking completely now as tears streamed down her cheeks. “Don’t insult the Goddess’s bond…”
Caleb stood there.
Frozen.
Her words landed like daggers, each one striking deeper than the last, something in his chest tightening painfully, his heartbeat turning erratic.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. What the hell was going on?
This wasn’t-
“I.” Iva’s voice faltered, but she forced it forward, her entire body trembling now as she turned slightly toward him, her tear-filled eyes locking onto his one last time.
“I, Ivana Carter, reject yo-”
She didn’t get to finish.
In two swift steps, Caleb was in front of her.
His hand came up instantly, covering her mouth firmly, stopping the words before they could fully form, before they could become something irreversible.
His other hand braced against the door beside her, trapping her again.
But this time-
Not out of dominance.
Out of desperation.
す
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he demanded, his voice rough, sharp, almost shaking as his eyes bore into hers.
He looked… shaken.
Completely shaken.
His entire body was tense, rigid, adrenaline coursing through him so violently it felt like his heart might break through his chest at any second.
