Chapter 16 

Tears or rainwater streamed down his cheeks as rainwater. His body trembled slightly, as if 

enduring immense pain. 

He knew that he had let down Elaine, the Aldrich family, but he really couldn’t deceive himself 

anymore. 

For three days and three nights, Zachary knelt in front of Elaine’s grave, without eating or drinking, 

motionless. 

The cemetery staff had tried to persuade him to leave, but he just gave them a cold glance, with a tone of unquestionable authority, saying, “Go away.” 

The staff dared not persuade anymore, they could only watch him from a distance, their hearts filled with doubt and worry. 

On the third day, the rain finally stopped. 

Zachary slowly stood up, his knees numb from kneeling for a long time, but he seemed completely unaware. He took one last look at Elaine’s tombstone and whispered, “Mom, I’m sorry. In this lifetime, I may have truly let you down.” 

After saying that, he turned around and left the cemetery, his back lonely and resolute. 

Back at the Aldrich’s Villa, Zachary’s first action was to call off the engagement. Charles and Rebecca were both stunned when they heard this news. 

“What did you say?” Charles’s voice carried a hint of disbelief. “Cancel the engagement? Zachary, do you know what you’re saying?” 

Zachary’s face remained expressionless as he spoke in a cold and resolute tone, “I said, cancel the engagement.” 

Rebecca’s face turned pale instantly, and she trembled as she grabbed Zachary’s arm, her voice tinged with a plea, “Zachary, why? Did I do something wrong? I promise I won’t touch you without your consent ever again, okay? Please don’t cancel the engagement…” 

Zachary glanced at her, his tone tinged with a hint of guilt, “It has nothing to do with this.” 

Rebecca’s tears burst instantly, and she trembled as she asked, “Is it Silvia? You still can’t forget her, right?” 

Zachary remained silent for a moment and finally nodded, “Yes.”

Charles’s face turned pale in an instant, and he slammed the table and stood up, his voice filled with anger. “Zachary! Have you forgotten that she killed your mother? How can you still think about 

her?” 

Zachary clenched his fist tightly, with his nails deeply embedded in his palm. 

His voice was hoarse and deep, “I haven’t forgotten. That’s why I went to my mother’s grave and knelt for three days and three nights. But I tried, I really can’t let go of her.” 

Charles was so angry that he trembled all over. He suddenly grabbed the whip on the table and fiercely lashed it on Zachary’s body, saying, “You bastard! I had to wake you up today by force!” 

The whip lashed down on Zachary’s body, again and again, his clothes quickly torn apart, leaving bloody marks on his skin. 

But he remained motionless, as if he couldn’t feel any pain. 

“Can you let it go?!” Charles’s voice carried a hint of hysteria. 

A drop of blood oozed from the corner of Zachary’s mouth, but his tone remained resolute, “I won’t 

let go.” 

“Can you let go?!” Charles’s whip cracked again. 

Zachary’s body trembled slightly, but his voice remained calm, “I couldn’t let go.” 

“Can you let go?!” Charles’s whip cracked once again. 

Zachary’s body finally gave in and he collapsed to the ground. 

His back was mangled, and blood flowed down his body, staining the ground red. 

But he still lifted his head, looking at Charles with a determined gaze. “I will go find her. In this lifetime, I will bind myself to her. In the next life, we will go to hell together. But in this lifetime, without her, I will die.” 

Charles’s hand trembled suddenly, and the whip fell to the ground. 

His body trembled, as if he had aged ten years in an instant. There was a hint of despair in his voice, “What a calamity… What a calamity…” 

After saying that, his body suddenly tilted and he fainted directly to the ground. 

“Dad!” Zachary stood up abruptly, ignoring the pain in his body, and rushed over to support Charles. His voice carried a hint of panic, “Quickly call an ambulance!”
