Lavinia Joplin walked into the classroom, which was already packed.
Over the past couple of years, the CFA certification craze had really taken off. Whether you were actually a finance major or not, getting that Chartered Financial Analyst credential was like grabbing a golden ticket into the financial industry.
She found a seat in the corner. The girl next to her leaned over and asked, "Are you in securities or funds?"
"I'm a medical student," Lavinia replied.
"Medicine?" The girl blinked. "Have you studied finance before?"
"No."
"Then you must have taken a specialized training course, right?" the girl said. "I majored in finance, and I still had to take a year-long prep class just to sit for the exam."
Lavinia froze.
"The exam is next month. I'm so nervous," the girl said, patting her chest.
Lavinia didn't say a word. She suddenly realized she might have been tricked by Charley Sheffield. This CFA exam sounded incredibly difficult to pass. He had coaxed her into believing she could do it in just a month.
Behind her, two guys were whispering.
"I heard the instructor for our class is amazing. He's a Limited Partner at a huge firm."
"A top-tier LP is teaching our class? No way."
"Seriously. Word is that the owner of this training center is his childhood friend."
"If that's true, even if we fail the exam, the networking alone is worth it."
The students were still gossiping when a tall, lean figure strode into the room with steady, confident steps and stopped behind the podium.
Lavinia almost jumped out of her seat.
Coupled with his elegant demeanor and deep, commanding voice, the students were completely captivated.
Lavinia felt a bit awkward initially, but by the time the lecture was over, she realized she had subconsciously taken dozens of pages of notes. Her hand was aching.
The bell rang.
The moment Charley put down his chalk, the entire class swarmed him, holding their phones high, desperate to get his contact on the messaging app.
While he was distracted, Lavinia quickly packed up her books, hunched over, and tried to sneak out the back door.
"Lavinia."
His voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the entire classroom and landed crystal clear in her ears.
The whole room suddenly fell dead silent. Everyone's eyes followed his gaze, landing squarely on her.
