Lavinia stepped out of the bathroom, carrying the damp scent of floral soap.
Garnett had already changed into his pajamas and was leaning against the headboard, waiting for her. He was deeply engrossed in a book, occasionally reaching up to rub his nose.
She shot him a glance. She had shaken out so much dog hair earlier, and it seemed to be finally kicking in.
But it wasn't enough.
She walked over to the vanity, picked up the hair dryer, and plugged it in. The hot air caught the residual dog hair from her clothes, blowing it straight toward the bed.
Garnett looked up, giving her an odd look. "You didn't even wash your hair. Why are you blow-drying..."
Before he could finish, his nose crinkled, and he turned his head away.
"Achoo."
That sneeze seemed to flip a switch. It was followed immediately by a second, then a third, chaining together uncontrollably.
Lavinia turned off the hair dryer and stood right where she was, watching him. He was hunched over the headboard, his eyes and nose completely red, the book long forgotten on the mattress.
"Are you coming down with a cold?" she asked flatly. "Don't pass it to me. I still need to take care of my uncle, and he can't risk getting an infection right now. It could lead to severe complications."
Garnett glared at her, intending to say, 'You only care about your own family and ignore your husband.' But before the words could leave his mouth, another massive sneeze tore through him, shaking his entire body.
Lavinia turned, walked out of the room, and rummaged through the medicine cabinet for a while. She returned with vitamins and allergy medication, placing them on the nightstand.
"Take some medicine first. The company has a lot going on; you can't afford to get sick."
Garnett stared at the two boxes of pills. Several of his current projects were indeed at critical stages, and he couldn't afford to be bedridden. He picked up the pills and swallowed them with some water.
Lavinia waited for him to swallow before reaching out and shoving his shoulder. "Go sleep in your room. Don't infect me."
Garnett let her pull him out of bed and shove him toward the door. He glanced back at her, his lips parting, but he ultimately said nothing.
The doorbell rang.
He had no choice but to let go. The dog darted off, vanishing under the sofa.
A girl with short hair stood outside the door. The moment she saw him, she grinned. "Boss!"
Charley handed the cardboard box over. "I need this done by tomorrow morning."
Zoey took the box, glanced down, and frowned. "One night? That's impossible, Boss."
"I want the results by eight tomorrow morning," he said, staring at her coldly. "How you pull it off is your problem."
With that, he shut the door.
Zoey stared at the gray-black iron door, grinding her teeth as she muttered under her breath, "Gaslighting me like this. I'm definitely going to complain to Lavinia about you."
