The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 310

She picked up the phone and walked over to the window, turning her back to him. Charley's gaze locked onto her, tracking her every movement.

He stared at the back of her head as if trying to burn a hole through it. She was entirely oblivious.

"I just got the notification that a lawsuit has been filed. Why did you do this?" Garnett's voice came through the speaker.

"You refused to go through with the standard dissolution, so I was forced to take this route."

"I saw your list of evidence. There's no concrete proof of anything. It's all just your own delusions."

"How do you know I don't have—"

Before she could finish her sentence, her phone was snatched out of her hand.

Lavinia spun around. Charley was standing right behind her. He held her phone in one hand, his thumb swiping sharply across the screen to end the call.

Charley looked down at her, his eyes clear and terrifyingly sharp. "I didn't submit the critical evidence. We're holding it back until the very last minute. Otherwise, it just gives him time to strategize."

Right now, his gaze was piercing and lucid. He didn't look like a sick man at all.

Lavinia stared at him blankly, then reached up to touch his forehead.

"Your fever broke?"

Charley froze slightly, then slowly placed her phone on the nearby cabinet.

"I'm still a little dizzy," he deflected, looking away. "You should head home. I don't want to get you sick."

"Are you kidding? I'm not leaving you here alone when you were just running a fever," Lavinia frowned.

She grabbed his wrist and pushed him down onto the sofa. As a patient, he was being incredibly uncooperative.

She fluffed the throw pillows and propped them behind his back, then went to the bedroom, pulled out a light blanket, and draped it over him.

"Just behave and lie down for a bit. I'm going to make you some fruit tea."

She turned and walked into the kitchen.

The sound of water boiling, the soft clink of a mug against the counter, the rhythmic slicing of a lemon, the squeak of the honey jar twisting open and shut.

Charley lay on the sofa with his eyes closed, though his eyelashes twitched slightly. He cracked an eye open, staring fixedly at her back.

It wasn't until he heard her footsteps leaving the kitchen that his heart rate finally settled.

Lavinia walked over with a glass pitcher and placed it gently on the table.
