The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 242

"Lavinia," he called out softly.

"What now?"

"Let's meet at the Arden Estate. When you come, I'll give you what you want," he said.

"And what's that?" she asked.

His Adam's apple bobbed. It took him a long moment to force the words out, his voice unspeakably hoarse. "The divorce agreement. I signed it."

Silence stretched across the line.

"Really? You actually signed it?" she finally asked.

His throat felt tight. "Yes. Come over whenever you're free."

To his shock, she immediately replied, "I'm heading over right now."

He offered a bitter smile to the empty car. Was she really in that much of a hurry to be rid of him?

"Alright. I'll wait for you at the house."

After ending the call, Garnett checked his watch. He still needed to make a quick stop at the office. He just prayed there was enough time.

Lavinia was still at work when she got the call. Completely out of nowhere, he had agreed to the divorce!

Terrified he might change his mind, she hastily informed her director and rushed straight to the Arden Estate.

Standing before that familiar yet distant door, a wave of melancholy washed over her. She hadn't been back in months, yet everything looked exactly as she had left it.

The welcome mat she had picked out was caked in dust. The festive holiday decorations on the door had faded, left hanging long past their season.

She pressed her thumb against the biometric lock. With a soft beep, the door clicked open.

Stepping inside, Lavinia blinked in surprise. There were several men in the house—installation technicians by the look of it, wearing uniforms with English logos.

Garnett walked out to greet them. "Thanks for the hard work. Corinne will handle the final invoice."

The workers packed up their tools and left.

Back then, she hadn't minded. She believed it was her home too, and contributing was simply her duty.

But comparing her struggles to the millions he had effortlessly blown on a luxury condo and a diamond ring for Sigrid Sloan? It made her feel like an absolute joke.

"Why the silence? I'm not selling this house anymore. I can transfer the deed entirely to your name," Garnett offered.

"No thanks," Lavinia replied flatly.

Why would she ever want this house? Just the thought of what he and Sigrid had done in it made her stomach turn.

Garnett stared at her cold, impassive profile and suddenly let out a sharp laugh.

"You don't want me, and you don't want my money. What was even the point of you marrying me in the first place?"

He waited for her to answer.

But Lavinia simply pressed her lips together, refusing to say a word.

Garnett's knuckles turned white, his grip wrinkling the edges of the pristine folder.
