The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 222

"We were always just two parallel lines that happened to intersect in some twisted reality. Now, it's time we both went back to where we belong."

Lavinia tossed her napkin onto the table, grabbed her bag, and walked out.

She had barely stepped out of the room when Garnett chased after her, grabbing her wrist.

He looked at her, his voice slightly hoarse. "That thing you mentioned had nothing to do with me. I told you before, Caden Coleman making you a full-time employee was just to humiliate you. He doesn't even have to get his hands dirty—the entire firm will make your life miserable."

"Don't you get it? Even if I don't interfere, you won't survive there! I'm giving you an out!"

Lavinia didn't want to talk to him. She tried to yank her hand back. She tugged a few times but couldn't break his grip.

"Lavinia, come home with me!"

"Let me go!"

A sharp pain radiated from her wrist, already leaving a red mark.

In the past, whenever she tried to leave, he would never chase her, let alone beg her to stay. But this time, he stubbornly refused to let go.

"Miss, do you need help?"

A gentle voice came from behind them.

Lavinia glanced back, her eyes red. A man in a grey suit, wearing silver-rimmed glasses, was looking at her with concern.

She quickly said, "Sir, I don't know this man. He's trying to kidnap me. Please, help me."

The man's glasses caught the light, and his warm eyes instantly darkened.

"Sir, please let the lady go," he said, his tone carrying a distinct warning.

Garnett's jaw tightened. "I am her husband."

"Let her go. This is your last warning."

The gazes of several bystanders snapped toward them. Someone even held up a phone to record.

Garnett had no choice but to release her.

The man in glasses stepped forward, shielding Lavinia behind his back.

Garnett glared at him, then glanced at Lavinia, who was hiding behind the stranger with only the edge of her coat visible.

The little wife who had always clung to his side was now constantly running away from him.

She would rather hide behind a total stranger than let him touch her.

Garnett sat in the backseat, watching the city lights blur past the window.

He suddenly remembered the night of their first date two years ago. He had taken her home in this very car.

It was obvious she had never drank before; a single glass of wine had completely knocked her out.

She had slept the entire ride. Even when they pulled up to her house, she hadn't woken up.

He had dismissed the driver and sat in the car waiting for her to wake up. He waited for two whole hours without a shred of impatience.

Back then, he just thought she was a little unique.

Plenty of women wanted to win him over, and he had assumed she was just one of them playing a new angle.

What kind of woman would do absolutely nothing in front of her target and just sleep soundly for two hours?

During their subsequent dates, he had kept observing her.

He watched her, found he didn't dislike her, and eventually, they got married.

Even now, he still didn't understand what it was that he actually wanted.
