The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 220

"Exactly. Because you have a higher position, leaving would be a much bigger loss for you."

Garnett paused. "Lavinia is just an entry-level associate. It doesn't matter where she works. If she really loves this industry that much, I'll just pull some strings and get another firm to hire her."

Sigrid pressed her lips together.

Garnett reached up, his thumb gently wiping away a tear near the corner of her reddened eyes.

"Sigrid, I might not be able to give you everything right now, but I will absolutely never let you be wronged."

He paused to emphasize his point. "I keep my promises."

Looking at him through tear-filled eyes, Sigrid slowly rested her head against his shoulder.

Garnett patted her comfortingly, saying nothing more.

In the corner of the coffee shop, a man wearing a baseball cap appeared to be reading a magazine.

On the table in front of him sat a bag with a small hole cut into the side—the camera lens hidden inside pointed directly at the couple.

Lavinia's first-month performance evaluation came out.

When she opened the email from HR, she completely froze. C-grade. Fail.

Her team lead, Ethan, leaned over with a grin. "How about it, Lavinia? You wrote so many reports last month, you must have gotten an A, right?"

Lavinia pursed her lips, saying nothing.

Ethan caught a glimpse of the email on her screen and immediately shut his mouth.

Lavinia sat in silence for a long time. Finally, she picked up her desk phone, called HR, and demanded to know on what grounds they had failed her.

The HR specialist replied in a completely robotic, corporate tone, stating that this was the final result of the evaluation. If she had any disputes, she could file an appeal with the executive office.

Lavinia slowly hung up the phone.

Ethan was sitting right next to her and had heard the entire conversation.

"Lavinia, arguing with HR is pointless. Mr. Coleman definitely ordered them to do this. Even if you force them to provide a reason, they'll just fabricate one. It's a waste of time."

He hesitated for a second.

"Honestly, you should just go apologize to Mr. Coleman and see if there's any way to salvage this."

Chester took a step closer, towering over her aggressively.

"Lavinia, if you don't even understand a basic concept like that, you are completely unfit to work in investments."

Lavinia's hands curled into tight fists. "You are actively pushing fake medicine into the market. If that drug actually launches, do you know how many people it will kill? Where is your conscience?"

"Hah, I'm just an analyst. I don't manufacture the drugs. Why should I care?" Chester sneered.

"Lavinia."

Garnett's voice rang out from behind her.

Lavinia didn't turn around, simply furrowing her brow.

Garnett walked right up beside her, wrapping a protective arm around her shoulder as he shot Chester an icy glare.

"My wife does not need life lessons from a bottom-feeder like you. The next time you speak to Mrs. Harper, I highly suggest you show some respect."

Chester could only watch in stunned silence as Garnett took Lavinia's hand and guided her into a black Bentley parked by the curb.

Garnett held the door open for her like a perfect gentleman, shot Chester one final warning glare, and slid into the back seat beside her.
