The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 210

Lavinia took a deep breath and stared straight ahead.

He pulled the car up to the entrance of her alley and watched her walk into her courtyard before finally driving away.

Lavinia stepped into her house, just managing to kick off her shoes when her phone rang with a delivery notification.

"Hello? Is this Ms. Lavinia Joplin? I have a high-value parcel here that requires your signature in person. Are you home?"

A high-value parcel? What could it be?

Lavinia quickly answered, "I'm home."

Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang.

Lavinia ran out to find the courier waiting.

She presented her ID, verified her information, and signed the formal legal documents for an unconditional gift transfer.

Finally, she was handed a medium-sized box.

She carried it inside and carefully unpacked it layer by layer.

Inside was an impeccably crafted leather case. Upon opening the case, she found a blue velvet box.

The moment Lavinia saw that box, a sudden wave of intuition hit her, and her heart began to hammer against her ribs.

There was a small card resting inside the cardboard box that read: *The passcode is your birthday.*

Lavinia picked up the blue velvet box and, sure enough, found a small combination lock attached to the clasp. She dialed in her birthday, and the box clicked open.

Inside was the pearl jewelry set.

The full pearl necklace, the diamond-and-pearl bracelet, and the matching teardrop earrings.

After going around in a massive circle, the jewelry had miraculously ended up right in her hands.

She stared down at the pearls, completely stunned, unable to believe this was real.

After a moment, something occurred to her, and she grabbed the card to examine it closely.

There was no signature, no corporate crest, and no seal.

The magazine's public apology had stated that the pearls belonged to the private collection of the heir to the Solstice Group.

Who exactly was this man? How could he possibly know her? Was it someone she went to college with?

Her phone chimed twice with a notification.

Lavinia picked it up and saw a text from an unknown number:

*Someone in this world will always secretly love you.*

Her heart violently slammed against her chest.

Her hands trembling slightly, she typed back: *Who are you?*

A minute later, the reply came: *Next stop, see you at the intersection.*

She hastily typed again: *Do I know you?*

The person didn't reply again.

Clutching the pearl jewelry, Lavinia suddenly knew she wasn't going to get a single wink of sleep tonight.

Lavinia stared at him in a daze.

"Do you like them?" he asked again.

"I love pearls more than anything."

"Let me put them on you."

He stepped behind her and gently fastened the necklace around her neck.

"Does it look good?" she asked.

"It's beautiful. It suits you perfectly."

*Someone in this world will always secretly love you.*

Her vision suddenly blurred. She took a deep breath, desperately trying to blink the tears back.

"Lavinia, you are such an idiot."

Charley let out a helpless sigh. He raised his hand, hesitated for a fraction of a second, and finally pulled her head gently against his shoulder.

"There's no such thing as a wrong emotion. If you want to cry, cry. If you want to laugh, laugh. Why force yourself to hold it in?"

The hot tears spilled over her lashes, instantly soaking a small patch of the fabric on his shoulder.

He gently patted her back.

"You deserve better."
