The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 207

"Grandma moved out? Why?"

Garnett's voice inadvertently rose in pitch.

Standing beside his desk, Corinne, who had been bending over to hand him a document, instinctively looked up at him.

Maeve's voice was calm on the other end of the line. "Your father had an issue with Judith. He said she shouldn't be hiding her wealth to give to outsiders, and your stepmother was fanning the flames. Judith said she's nearly eighty years old and refuses to accommodate anyone else's greed, so she packed up and left."

Garnett shot to his feet.

The last time he had visited home, his father and grandmother had gotten into a nasty argument over the pearl jewelry.

Since then, he had called Maeve every day to check on Judith. He hadn't expected the household dynamic to deteriorate so rapidly in just a few days.

While he was out of the house, his father and Zenia actually had the nerve to criticize his grandmother? Did they forget that the Harper family only possessed what they had today because of her?

"Where did she move to?"

"The Gilmore Estate. You've been there before, sir."

Garnett frowned.

"That house is ancient. Is it even habitable?"

"You don't need to worry about that. The eldest grandson from the second branch of the family specifically sent a team to renovate it a while back. It has all the modern amenities now. It's quite comfortable."

The second branch of the Gilmore family referred to Judith's younger brother, Geoffrey Gilmore, who lived on Marina Island. His grandson, Julian Gilmore, was just two years older than Garnett.

Julian was highly successful, boasting an extensive network in both political and business circles.

"I'm heading over there right now," Garnett said.

Hanging up the phone, he turned to Corinne. "I won't be attending any of the afternoon meetings. Have the Vice President run them."

Corinne nodded and added, "There are some urgent documents pending in the system. Please remember to sign them."

"Got it." Garnett grabbed his suit jacket and rushed out.

During the drive to the Gilmore Estate, a sour feeling settled in Garnett's chest.

Lavinia had moved out of the Arden Estate months ago, and now his grandmother had left the main family house.

His family was falling apart. Could they ever go back to the way things used to be?

Judith looked to be in exceptionally high spirits. She smiled and said, "Lavinia rushed over right after the call too. You're both such dutiful children, but you shouldn't neglect your jobs just for me."

"Grandma, there's a blockage here. I'm going to apply a little pressure to ease the tension. It might pinch a bit," Lavinia warned.

"Go ahead, Lavinia. I can handle it."

Lavinia located a stubborn knot along Judith's spine and used her elbow to knead it out. After a few precise movements, Judith visibly relaxed, sighing in relief.

Garnett watched Lavinia. Her eyes were lowered, her voice soft and gentle, looking exactly as she used to.

Back then, they had treated each other with quiet, mutual respect.

He sat there quietly, watching her without saying a word.

Lavinia completely ignored his gaze. Once she was finished massaging Judith, she spoke softly. "Grandma, I'm going to check the kitchen to see if the spiced pear tonic is ready."

"Alright, go ahead," Judith said with a warm smile.

The two of them watched her disappear into the backyard before Judith turned to Garnett. "Go check on her."
