The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 194

Charley stayed behind to speak with the female staff members and didn't immediately follow her.

...

Lavinia found her dorm and used the key to unlock the door.

It was a private, single room with an en-suite bathroom and shower. The conditions were vastly superior to her old university dorm.

There was a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a window that overlooked the ocean.

She had just finished putting her luggage away when a steady knock sounded at the door.

She ran over and opened it. It was Charley.

Lavinia quickly pulled him inside and shut the door.

"What are you doing here?" she asked in a hushed voice.

"I was worried about you."

He stepped further inside, scanning the room. He seemed slightly dissatisfied, his mouth pressed into a flat line.

Lavinia's gaze dropped to the ID badge on his chest. "Senior Manager of Security and Compliance? How did you pull that off?"

"NeoGenix's compliance department uses external consultants. I just added my name to their system."

"Added your name?"

"It's the digital age. Modifying a few data points isn't hard."

"When did you get here?"

"Two hours before you did."

He had actually arrived earlier than she had.

"Aren't you worried about getting caught?" Lavinia asked.

"There are tens of thousands of people on this campus. It's completely normal not to recognize someone."

Lavinia's heart felt incredibly warm.

Yesterday, when she told him she was going undercover, he had only given a flat "oh." She actually thought he didn't care.

But it turned out he had secretly created a fake identity to come here with her.

She looked down, a soft smile curving her lips.

"What do you want for dinner?" Charley asked.

"What is it?" Garnett asked, his tone detached.

"Lavinia offended Mr. Coleman at Celestial Capital. She might not pass her probation period," she murmured.

Garnett's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. "What happened?"

"Her evaluation project was to write a value investment analysis report on a new pharmaceutical company. That company was founded by someone from Mr. Coleman's hometown, and he clearly wants to invest."

Sigrid frowned slightly, managing to look as if she genuinely pitied Lavinia.

"Honestly, with these kinds of connection-based companies, as long as you write something positive, passing probation is a breeze. But Lavinia is just too stubborn. She insisted that the founder faked his resume and strongly advised against the investment."

Garnett pressed his lips together, saying nothing.

He knew perfectly well that despite Lavinia's delicate appearance, she was as stubborn as a mule at her core.

Looking at his cold, sharp profile, Sigrid spoke gently, "Didn't you ask me to find a way to get her out of Celestial Capital before? This time, we don't even have to interfere. She practically showed herself the door. I heard she requested two weeks of leave."

Garnett's frown deepened into heavy creases.

He slowly stood up. "I need to step outside to make a call."

Watching his retreating back, Sigrid's thin lips pressed tightly together.
