In the end, the committee failed to reach a final decision. The higher-ups ruled that the valuation report needed further refinement.
The project would go up for a second review only after the Industry Research and Quantitative Research departments reached a preliminary consensus.
Jocelyn stormed back into the office, slamming the thick file onto her desk.
"Scheming bitch!"
She spat the words through gritted teeth, loud enough for the entire department to hear.
Lavinia knew Sigrid was doing this on purpose. She simply couldn't stand the thought of watching Saul succeed.
Lately, Garnett Harper had been foolishly turning the world upside down trying to find her. Little did he know, she and Sigrid were working at the exact same company.
Sigrid had deliberately hidden that fact from him.
Thinking for a moment, Lavinia dug out the old phone she had left home with. The moment it powered on, a barrage of missed calls flooded the screen.
Her chat with Garnett was overflowing with messages.
He demanded to know where she was, whether she was eating well abroad, and if she wanted him to fly out and keep her company.
He even mentioned that Grandma missed her and asked when she was coming back.
A pang of bitterness struck Lavinia's heart.
She took a screenshot of the chat and sent it to Sigrid.
[Hey Sigrid, I'm feeling really down today. I kind of miss my husband. Do you think I should go home?]
Send.
Sigrid didn't reply.
A faint smirk tugged at the corners of Lavinia's lips. The other woman would definitely know what to say at the next committee meeting.
Sigrid always had her eyes on the prize. What she wanted was Garnett, and the status of being Mrs. Harper.
If she could tolerate Lavinia working at Celestial Capital, she could swallow her pride and greenlight Joplin Adhesives Corp.
A message from Jocelyn popped up on her screen: [Let's grab a drink after work. I'm about to die of anger thanks to your precious Sigrid.]
Lavinia couldn't help but laugh. She typed back: [Sure. I'll find a place.]
A moment later, another text arrived: [Should we invite Charley?]
Lavinia froze.
Unable to think of a good excuse to say no, she replied: [Okay. I'll let him know.]
Pulling up near Celestial Capital, he spotted Lavinia standing near the entrance. Beside her stood an elegant, sophisticated woman.
It was Jocelyn.
His heart sank slightly.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Zoey.
Steering with one hand, he picked up the call.
Zoey's voice sounded low and completely defeated. "Boss, our team was ambushed on the way to the Registry. Garnett's people took the owner."
Silence.
"Boss, I'm so sorry. I messed up. Punish me however you want, just please don't ship me back to Brazil."
"Got it," Charley sighed, ending the call.
The two women were still waiting by the curb. He pulled forward and parked right in front of them.
"Charley!" Lavinia's eyes lit up.
"Charley. It's not easy getting an audience with you," Jocelyn said, her eyes practically melting into his.
