In the elevator bank, Lavinia saw Jocelyn Chandler waiting for the doors to open.
Without turning to look at her, Jocelyn said evenly, "Good job in there. Mr. Lambert mentioned he sees a lot of potential in you."
"Thank you for the opportunity, Ms. Chandler."
"You know Sigrid Sloan?"
"We know each other, but we're not close. We both went to Northwood High. She was in the high school division while I was in junior high."
"I see. She came by our department yesterday to drop off some pastries, but you didn't say hello. It seemed like you were intentionally avoiding her?"
Lavinia turned to Jocelyn, looking at her profile, and enunciated clearly, "Outside of work, I prefer to have nothing to do with her."
Jocelyn paused for a few seconds before her lips curled up slightly. "You're certainly direct."
The topic was finally dropped. Lavinia seized the moment to add a few more points about the new policies' impact on pharma R&D. Jocelyn listened attentively.
Once back in the office, Lavinia tossed her mask in the trash.
Since Sigrid already knew she was here, there was no point in hiding anymore.
However, she still didn't want Garnett Harper to find out she was still in Blossom City.
That man was too self-centered, too much trouble. She hoped the next time she saw him, it would be to finalize the divorce.
Lavinia stared at Sigrid's name in the internal company directory, lost in thought.

After work, her colleagues gradually filed out. Lavinia kept her eyes on the directory; Sigrid's status icon was still lit up.
Clearly, he had bought the teddy bear for Sigrid as well.
Lavinia suddenly remembered a time when she had finally convinced Garnett to go to the movies with her. Halfway through, he found it boring and insisted on leaving. Walking out of the theater, feeling utterly let down, Lavinia spotted someone selling stuffed bears. She tugged at his hand and said, "Honey, I'd really love a bear."
Without even glancing at it, he had replied coldly, "Stop embarrassing yourself. It's childish."
It was only later she realized that he didn't lack patience, nor did he have a bad temper. He was just like that with *her*.
Sigrid brewed two cups of herbal tea and gently set them on the desk. Noticing Lavinia staring blankly at the teddy bear, she smiled. "I have a habit of holding onto something during my afternoon naps; it gives me a sense of security. Sorry if it looks a bit silly."
Lavinia snapped out of her daze and looked down at her cup of tea, making no move to drink it.
"Sigrid, are things going well with Mr. Harper lately?" Lavinia asked calmly.
Sigrid was stunned, clearly not expecting her to be so painfully blunt.
