The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 132

"Facilities that can run radiopharmaceutical target tests? Well, as far as I know, there are only a handful in the entire world."

"You want me to check them one by one? That might take some time... Understood. I'll handle it myself. I won't delegate it, don't worry."

The moment she hung up, Corinne exploded into complaints. "That stupid woman is making my life a living hell again!"

"What happened?" Sigrid asked with feigned concern.

"She ran away from home!"

Corinne sounded absolutely furious.

"Mr. Harper went to ask her cousin, and he claimed she took her uncle abroad for radiopharmaceutical target testing. I mean, fine, go if you want to go, but why play this disappearing act? She's just doing it to get Mr. Harper's attention! So childish!"

"Alright, alright, calm down. It's just a little girl's parlor trick. She only has a few moves anyway," Sigrid consoled her.

"But seriously, is Garnett really making you call every single facility in the world that does radiopharmaceutical target testing?"

"Mr. Harper said he looked into it, and there are only seven labs globally. He told me to track them down one by one, and he forbade me from delegating it because he doesn't trust anyone else," Corinne huffed.

"He trusts you because you're the best. Tell you what, I'll help you look into it."

"Oh, Sigrid, you're the best. I really hope you become my actual boss's wife soon."

The two of them huddled together, badmouthing Lavinia for a while longer. Sigrid seemed dissatisfied with the outfit she was trying on, so they decided to check out the next store.

Walking out of the fitting area arm in arm, they instantly spotted a man sitting in the lounge area. He had strikingly handsome features and radiated a cold, aloof aura.

It was Charley Sheffield. Dressed in a casual Issey Miyake jacket, his long legs were crossed, his expression utterly indifferent.

The only incongruous detail was the boba tea sitting on the table in front of him, the cup printed with a pink cartoon beaver.

Sigrid's expression instantly tightened. After freezing for a few seconds, she offered a dry laugh. "Charley. What a coincidence."

"Indeed," Charley's gaze swept over her coolly.

Corinne didn't know who Charley was, but she immediately sensed the imposing presence of a man used to being at the top.

He was different from Garnett Harper. Garnett radiated oppressive dominance. This man felt like a god looking down from the clouds. Under his gaze, she felt like nothing more than an ant.

"We..." Sigrid glanced at Corinne. They had been loudly trashing Lavinia just moments ago, spilling all their unfiltered thoughts. Had he heard everything?

She pressed her lips together, confused as to why she felt intimidated by Charley. He was just a corporate drone in the finance sector, wasn't he?

Even knowing he was just trying to comfort her, it still made her feel a little better.

She stood perfectly still and asked softly, "Let's go get some food."

He unclasped his hands and looked down at her. "There's a classic local spot nearby. I made a reservation. My treat."

Lavinia shook her head. "We're both unemployed right now. Let's stop treating each other to expensive meals. Let's just buy some groceries and cook at home."

Charley's eyes shifted slightly.

Lavinia quickly added, "I'll cook."

His eyes flickered again before he asked, "Is my cooking that bad?"

"It's delicious, but I can't let you be the only one taking care of me all the time," Lavinia smiled.

After paying for the clothes, Charley took the shopping bags, and they walked out side by side.

Wearing a face mask and a baseball cap, with this towering pillar of a man walking beside her, Lavinia finally felt safe.
