Chapter 68
The question has been eating at me since I woke up. I can understand hatred. I can understand jealousy. I can’t understand looking at another person and deciding they deserve something like that.
He pulls me into his arms.
“Summer is an evil bitch and so are those warriors who hurt you, but you will make them all pay,” he says.
I look at him.
“I want you to mark me right now,” I say softly.
“princess it hurts like hell that’s why most do it during mating,” he says.
“I’ve been through pain Cole, please,” I say pleading.
His eyes search my face for a long moment. Not because he doesn’t want to do it. Because he’s making sure this is my choice.
He searches my face for a moment before sighing.
“Okay princess,” he says before pulling me into his lap.
He moves the jacket over and licks my marking spot.
My body shivers in response.
His canines extend and he bites down into my neck.
Pain shoots through me and I bite back a scream, before pleasure replaces the pain and I moan softly.
This feels different. Nobody is taking anything from me. Nobody is forcing me. This is my choice. Mine.
He licks over the wound sealing it.
He looks at me.
“Do you want to mark me also?” he asks.
I nod my head and he gives me his neck.
I extend my canines and lick his marking spot before biting down.
He hisses and his grip on me tightens.

Chapter 68
He moans when I seal the wound and Nova purrs in my mind.
“Thank you for this,” I say to him.
“Anything for you, I do think you should talk to someone,” he says.
I shake my head.
“No I don’t want to keep feeling like a victim, I just want to move on and try to forget about it once I leave this place,” I say.
Even as I say the words I know forgetting isn’t possible. I don’t think something like that ever really leaves you,
“You do not have to keep talking about it before you are ready,” he says quietly. “But you also do not have to carry it alone just
because you survived it.” he says.
I lay my head on his chest and nod.
“Thank you,” I say.
‘I can’t believe you’re my mate” He says. I smile softly. “Me either but I’m so happy it is you’ I say
We sit in the silence for a minute.
I press my fingers over the fresh mark on his neck, trying to focus on the warmth beneath my palm instead of the cold concrete that keeps trying to crawl back into my mind.
I chose this.
Cole chose me back.
But choice doesn’t erase what was taken from me. It doesn’t make my body forget the way fear settled into my bones.
It just gives me something new to hold onto when the memories come.
His arm stays wrapped around me the entire time. For once I don’t have to be strong. I don’t have to save anyone. I don’t have to heal anyone. I can just sit here and let someone take care of me for a little while.
“I’m sorry, my love, for not telling you about the prophecy. I just knew you had a lot on your plate,” he says, rubbing small circles
on my back.
“It’s okay, my love,” I reply.
“So, what are we going to do about Summer and the rest?” he asks.
“You will see,” I say. And this time, it’s not a guess-it’s a decision already made.

Chapter 68
“Mason is mated to your sister,” I tell him.
“I figured he would be. She did too. She wanted to reject him because of you, but I told her not to because he was a good guy. It was
just circumstances,” he responds.
“Good, because he deserves someone who will love him completely, and I know she will,” I say.
“Winnie, can you please bring me clothes again? I’d like to go home,” I link Winter.
“Winter is bringing me clothes so we can leave,” I say.
“Okay. You know we have to keep Nova hidden for a while, and when we go to the palace, it will be a challenge. I won’t lie-there are a few she-wolves I had relations with, and some the council had picked as my mates who are still there,” he says.
I look at him. “My mate, a she-wolf, can try to touch what is mine, and they will see what their Queen is made of,” I reply. No
hesitation. No insecurity. Just truth.
There’s a knock at the door, and Winter pops her head in, eyes on clothes.
“Is everyone decent?” she asks.
“Yes,” I say, laughing.
She walks in, followed by Dom, both freshly marked.
“Hello, my beta female,” I say.
“Hello, my Queen,” she responds, bowing.
“I’m going to get dressed so we can blow this pop stand,” I say, heading into the bathroom.
“Everything is going to change now. They know we have awakened,” Nova says.
“I know, and we will be prepared-especially after we deal with Summer,” I reply. Because healing didn’t mean forgetting. And there’s no fear behind it anymore-just resolve.
I come out of the bathroom, and Cole’s eyes darken instantly.
“soon my king, I promise ” I link him.
“I’m not rushing you, you are just beautiful” he responds.
“Okay, you two, save it for later,” Winter says.
We both laugh as we head out. But underneath it, I feel it-something bigger shifting into place, like the world just noticed me, and it’s not going to look away.
