The Lunar Queen (Lyric and Mason) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Cole Blackwood – Alpha King

I’ve been trying to think of ways to get out of going to this mating ball at MoonVeil Pack. Every ball we go to has always been the same since I turned eighteen. When I got the invite last month, I had no intentions of going. Of course my brothers and Beta talked

me into it. All three of them are unmated. The only one of us who found their mate is my Gamma, Caleb.

I’m waiting for the day I see those beautiful green eyes that have haunted my dreams my whole life. I have no idea what she looks

like or who she is, but those eyes are embedded into my mind.

When I was a pup, I was almost killed by a family member, and Selene saved my life. She blessed me and told my parents I was meant for so much more. Since then, for as long as I can remember, I have been dreaming of those green eyes. Selene told me they

belonged to someone important to me.

I’m hoping she is my mate.

It is the only reason I ever let myself believe the dreams meant something more than a goddess reminding me I owed her my life.

There’s a knock at my office door as I’m lost in my thoughts.

“come in,” I say.

My Beta, Dominic, walks in.

“Hey, Alpha, what is the name of the pack hosting the ball this weekend?” he asks.

“MoonVeil Pack. Why?” I ask.

“Well, we just got two applications for the Royal Warrior Program last night, and both of the she-wolves are from that pack. They

have the same last names as their Alpha and Beta,” he says.

“Why would the Alpha and Beta’s daughters want to be Royal guards?” I ask out loud.

Most high-ranking pups use their family name to secure easy positions inside their own pack. Applying for the Royal Warrior

Program means leaving that protection behind and earning a place beside warriors who will not care whose daughter they are.

I hold my hand out for the folders, and when I look at the application on top, which is for the Beta’s daughter, I freeze.

Zeus goes completely still in my head.

“The green-eyed girl,” he says quietly.

The one Selene’ showed us in my dreams.

“Lyric,” I say quietly, testing the name that has finally given those dreams a face. Those eyes have been following me through sleep

for almost nineteen years, and now I know who they belong to.

She wants to be a guard.

“Do you know them?” Dominic asks.

He looks at the picture in my hand, then back at me when he sees my face.

“Wait, is that her? The dream girl?” he asks.

“Yes,” I say, certain.

“Are you sure?” he asks.

I glare at him.

“I have seen those eyes every night in my dreams for almost nineteen years. I’m sure,” I say, staring at the picture.

She is beautiful, a goddess in her own right. Those green eyes and that wild red hair make it impossible to look away from the

picture.

There is something guarded in her expression, like she expected the camera to catch her off guard and made sure it did not.

“She’s only sixteen, Alpha,” Dominic says.

“I know,” I say, forcing myself to set the application down. “Selene showed me those eyes for a reason. I can wait until she is old

enough for me to understand what that reason is.”

“Well, I guess congratulations are in order. You finally found the girl from your dreams. Your parents will be happy to know Selene’s

promise led somewhere,” he says.

“Oh shit, Cole, you found the dream girl,” my youngest brother Xavier says, walking into my office.

“Is she here in the pack?” he asks.

“No, she is a she-wolf at Moon Veil who applied for the Royal Warrior Program,” Dominic says.

“Make sure both applications are reviewed properly,” I say to Dominic. “I want to know if they have what it takes.”

“How do we know they are capable?” Dominic asks.

Zeus moves closer in my mind, his attention fixed on the picture in my hand.

“The green-eyed girl is important,” he says, his voice low. “Selene would not have shown her to us all these years for no reason.”

“I know,” I say, keeping my eyes on Lyric’s application. “But wanting to be a Royal Warrior and being capable of becoming one are

two different things.”

If Lyric earns a place in the program, it needs to be because she belongs there-not because I saw her face in a dream.

“Then we evaluate them properly,” Dominic says.
