The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 522

Chapter 522

Ellie’s POV

The new healer arrived on the morning supply truck, clutching a duffel bag half her size.

She was young and wide-eyed, staring up at the peaks with her breath fogging in front of her face. She was younger than I expected, honestly, wearing a coat that was far too thin for this weather and sneakers that were already soaked through from the snow.

A few months ago, that had been me, standing in that exact spot.

“You must be the new assignment,” I called from the clinic stoop. “Come in before you lose a toe. Bad look for a healer.”

I gave her the full tour. The exam room, the counter, the ledger with everyone’s names and ailments and grudges noted in the margins. “Everything’s labeled,” I told her. “Tinctures are on the third shelf. The pack takes a while to warm up to outsiders, so let them come to you, and don’t take the staring personally.”

Upstairs in the apartment, I opened the closet and started pulling things out. Every sweater I owned. The scarves, the lined boots, the wool socks, the coat. Last of all, the embroidered dress and jacket set I’d bought for

the feasts.

“I can’t take all this,” the girl protested, although I could see the way her eyes went even wider at the dress, sparkling like she was already considering putting it on.

“Where I’m going, I won’t need it.” I smiled and set the dress on top of the pile. “You’ll love the feasts, and you’ll grow to love the cold, too. Trust me.”

My family was waiting by Dominic’s car when I came downstairs.

I hugged my father first, for a long time. He smelled like smoke and the tobacco from his pipe. He held me tight and didn’t let go.

“You have to install cell service out here,” I said sternly, pulling back to look him in the eye. “I mean it, Dad. Towers, satellites, I don’t care how. I want to call you on Sunday nights like a normal daughter.”

He laughed. “Bastian’s already getting quotes.”

Of course he was. “Good. And I’ll visit as soon as I can. That’s a promise.”

“I know it is.” He kissed my forehead.

Beside us, Dominic clasped Bastian’s hand and shook it hard.

“Spring,” Dominic said.

Bastian nodded once in affirmation, then turned and pulled me into a quick, rib-breaking hug. My arms stiffened at my sides, then went around his neck, and I buried my face in his coat and smiled.

Eli was next. I scooped him up and kissed him all over his face, both cheeks, his nose, his forehead, while he shrieked and squirmed and made a show of wiping every single one off.

“You’re SQUISHING me!”

“That’s the point.”

Amelia hugged me even tighter than Bastian. “Write to us,” she said, sniffling into my shoulder. “Until your dad sorts out the phones.”

“I will. Thank you, Amelia. For being such a good friend to me when I needed one the most.” I squeezed her tighter.
