Chapter 458
Ellie’s POV
The room went from empty to full of people and full of noise in a matter of seconds.
Vivian gasped, whirling around.
“Mom?! Dad?!”
“Come here, young lady.” The Beta got to Vivian first. He wrenched the pouch from her hand before she could so much as close her fingers around it. She shrieked and lunged for it, claws out, snarling.
But it was too late.
My father gestured, and in an instant, one of his pack warriors was on her, tackling her to the floor so hard it shook the small space.
I stumbled back, hitting the table behind me with a gasp. Dominic was at my side in an instant, arm encircling
my waist.
“You okay?” he murmured. I nodded.
“You…” Vivian stared up at us, eyes wide as the warrior bound her wrists behind her back.
Dominic picked up his chin and stared down his nose at her.
“How could you?” the Beta’s wife whispered as the warrior hauled Vivian to her feet. Her veil lay discarded on the floor now, nothing more than a forgotten piece of fabric. “We took you in. We loved you like our own! You know what we went through with our daughter, and you still betrayed us like this!”
Vivian said nothing. Just stared.
“What is this?” My father snatched the pouch away from the Beta, sniffed it, and grimaced. He handed it off to another warrior, who quickly dropped it into an evidence bag. “Poison,” he said, glancing at me. “Where did you get it?”
Vivian’s mouth opened. I expected one of her usual excuses, some all-too-perfect explanation, the kind she had used a thousand times before to get out of instances like this. She glanced at Dominic, imploring.
“Dom…”
