He looked into Nora's eyes, still burning with resentment, knowing full well that a woman blinded by jealousy wouldn't listen to a single word he said.

"Take some time to calm down."

Gideon had completely lost the patience to continue the conversation. Turning on his heel, his long legs carried him straight toward the walk-in closet on the other side of the master suite. He needed a clean shirt so he could leave this room and its suffocating hysteria behind.

His tall silhouette grew increasingly blurry in Nora's vision.

He was leaving.

He didn't even bother offering a single word of explanation. He just righteously pinned all the blame on her for being unreasonable.

"Gideon!"

Nora bolted upright, screaming his name at the top of her lungs at the back disappearing into the closet.

His footsteps paused, but he didn't turn around.

Nora gripped the blanket so tightly her knuckles turned a deathly white.

She stared at his broad back, tears still cascading down her face, but the light in her eyes had already faded into a dead, ashen gray.

"Are you really planning to drag this out with me forever?"

The sentence seemed to drain the absolute last bit of life from her.

"Three years ago, you told me that aside from the title of Mrs. Hayes, you couldn't give me anything else."

"And for these three years, I played by your rules. I played the part of the perfect, decorative wife."

"But now I'm tired. I don't want the title anymore. I want to let go. I want to leave this place for good. Why won't you just let me go?"
