Giselle buried her face in Gideon's neck, nuzzling against his chest with spoiled, stubborn entitlement.
"Do you have any idea how terrified I was when I saw you lying on that stretcher, covered in blood..."
Giselle clung tightly to his waist, tilting up her tear-stained face to whine pitifully, "Doesn't it hurt?"
Gideon looked down at the sobbing girl in his arms. His face, usually so cold and ruthless, completely melted into a pool of gentle warmth.
He sighed, raising his uninjured arm.
"I'm not in pain."
His large hand gently rested on the top of Giselle's head, slowly stroking her soft hair.
"Be a good girl, Giselle. Stop crying."
Gideon lowered his head slightly, resting his chin affectionately against her hair. His cold voice was now laced with endless indulgence.
"Look how old you are, still crying in my arms like a little kid."
"If you keep crying, your face is going to be a mess. You won't look pretty with swollen eyes, and all those socialites in The Metropolis will laugh behind the back of our Hayes Princess."
"Let them try! Anyone who dares laugh at me, I'll have you blacklist them!"
"Alright, whoever laughs at you, I will blacklist them."
Gideon's lips curved into a slight smile as his fingers slid down her hair, gently patting her shoulder.
"I don't care if I look pretty or not, I just want you to be okay."
Giselle grabbed his hand tightly and pressed it against her cheek. "You are never allowed to do anything this dangerous ever again. If something happened to you, how would I survive on my own..."
Gideon flipped his hand over to grasp her wrist, his thumb gently wiping away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
