The next morning.
The Hayes Group executive suite.
Gideon sat behind his massive mahogany desk, a custom black fountain pen flying across the bottom of several thick documents to leave his signature.
Last night at The Hayes Manor, he had surrendered to a mountain of demands just to pacify Giselle's hysterical breakdown. First thing this morning, he had ordered Liam York to execute every single one of those promises without delay.
Liam stood by the desk, respectfully collecting the freshly signed transfer agreements.
"Boss, the private yacht docked at the Port of Marseille has officially been transferred to Giselle's name."
Liam kept his head bowed, neatly organizing the stack of papers as he delivered a flawless report. "The equity transfer for the Southern Subsidiary—our luxury resort arm—has been expedited and finalized. The management team will head to the Manor this afternoon to brief her in detail."
Gideon set his pen down and pinched his throbbing temples.
"Make it happen. Keep a close eye on them, and make sure the executives know to accommodate her temper," Gideon commanded in a low voice.
"Giselle knows nothing about business, and she certainly doesn't know how to run a company. Draft a team of elite professional managers straight from headquarters to take over all daily operations. Have the monthly financial reports sent directly to my inbox. Do not bother her with the administrative details."
Clutching the folders, Liam spun around and quickly exited the office.
As the heavy wooden doors clicked shut, Gideon picked up his black coffee and took a long sip.
As the bitter liquid slid down his throat, his heart gave a violent, unprompted lurch.
An overwhelming, baseless wave of sheer panic seized his entire nervous system.
It felt like a massive drum was being repeatedly smashed inside his chest, sending violent tremors all the way down to his fingertips.
Gideon slammed the mug down. The porcelain cracked against the wood with a sharp snap.
Frustrated, he aggressively loosened his perfectly tied necktie.
This suffocating panic came entirely out of nowhere, an instinctive dread screaming that something catastrophic was about to happen. He couldn't sit still.
