Since Gideon was protecting Nora, she decided to come right to the source and trample the woman's pride in the very studio she was so proud of.
"Drop the strong, independent act, Nora."
Giselle sneered, her voice echoing through the spacious studio. "You think landing one project gives you a foothold in this circle? You're spending Gideon's money and using the Hayes Group's resources to play pretend here. Just the other day, Gideon was complaining at home that you never behave and only cause trouble."
Janie stopped what she was doing, stood up, and glared at Giselle with clenched fists.
"Excuse me, but you need to show some respect. Nora works late into the night, every night. She won this contract with her own talent. It has nothing to do with anyone else's money."
Janie shouted her defense.
Giselle spared Janie a haughty glance.
"When the masters are speaking, it's not the place of an assistant to interrupt."
Ignoring Janie, Giselle reached out and snatched up the preliminary draft sitting on Nora's desk.
It was a sketch for a custom high-jewelry necklace that had cost Nora several sleepless nights.
"This is the garbage you drew?"
Without even looking at it, Giselle gripped the paper and violently tore it in two right in front of everyone.
Riiiip—
The heavy paper split. Giselle released her grip, letting the torn pieces flutter onto the floor.
"I wouldn't take this even if you gave it to me for free!"
Giselle lifted her chin, her arrogance peaking. "You're exactly like your sketches—cheap and entirely classless!"
The office fell dead silent. Everyone stared at the shredded paper on the floor, too terrified to even breathe.
