Cassian and Kyron couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful woman lying across Cassian’s chest.

Their scent was all over her, inside and out. They’d filled her again and again, marking every inch of her skin.
Still, there was one special place left. The nape of Elessia’s neck, where they were dying to leave their mark.
Cassian’s fingers lingered in her hair as he watched her sleep, but his mind wasn’t as peaceful as he wished it were.
“Do you think she’ll hate us when she finds out Mother was behind everything that happened to her? And what are we going to do with her, Cassian?”
“The King knows… I’ll leave it in Vhaelor’s hands. My mother… did something unforgivable to an innocent woman.”
Every word was full of pain.
He needed to find out what had happened after he passed out. Now that the haze of being with his mate had cleared, something in his chest felt wrong.
“I can’t feel my connection to Mother… Do you think the King sent her away, or…?”
The question trailed off, heavy between them.
They needed to know, not just for themselves, but because Elessia deserved an explanation.
With a defeated sigh, he leaned down and kissed her forehead, still damp with sweat.
He gave her waist a gentle squeeze and rolled her back onto the bed.
“Mmm… no more, you perverted wolf… my waist hurts… mmm…”
A faint smile tugged at the Alpha’s lips, and he leaned over to kiss her temple.
“Please, just give me a chance to make up for my mother’s mistakes…”
He begged even though he knew she couldn’t hear him.
He slowly got out of bed and finally noticed the pain in his ribs and the wounds that had opened again.
Now that the rush of sex had worn off, he could see the damage, but Cassian didn’t regret a single second of what they’d done tonight…
Or at least, not what had happened so far.
He pulled on the first pair of pants and whatever shirt he found nearby, then stepped into the hallway to find out where his mother was.
It was the early hours of the morning, almost dawn. He made sure the door to his room was firmly shut so Elessia would feel safe.
He only intended to find one of the warriors who had brought him back and demand an explanation.
Obviously, he wasn’t going to knock on the King’s door at this hour.
Cassian soon found one of them during the changing of the guard.

It was the man he trusted, the one who had defended Elessia’s place at his side when the other maidens protested.
John, do you know how I got back to the castle? My mother… I can’t find her. Have you heard anything?”
“My lord…” The man looked uncomfortable.
“Well, you were badly injured after fighting those traitors. The King arrived and took control, but your mother..”
He paused and scratched his head. Fuck, why did he have to be the one to break the news?
“Just fucking say it… Did he banish her? Did he… kill her?”
“No, the King didn’t do it…” The moment he said it, Cassian’s heart tightened a little more.
His wolf kept warning him that something was very wrong.
“The King didn’t do it?” he repeated.
‘Silence fell between them in the middle of the deserted courtyard.
“Benjamin, the son of her servant, killed her in a fit of rage,” John finally said.
They’d come back with the King and followed his orders, and now they were telling Cassian what Vhaelor had explained to them.
“No…”
Cassian took a step back, his face going pale. After everything she’d done, she was still his mother.
“My lord, that rabid dog attacked her from behind, but your mother… she provoked him somehow, and Benjamin went for her throat.”
Cassian knew exactly how his mother had provoked him.
She must’ve confessed she’d murdered his mother, certain Benjamin was as good as dead.
Mira could be a vicious, petty bitch, but that didn’t keep each word from feeling like a knife in Cassian’s chest.
“Where is that fucking bastard? TELL ME!”
He grabbed John by the lapels of his shirt in a rage.
“He couldn’t have gotten away. He doesn’t get to live after everything he did!”
Cassian roared as his mother’s death finally hit him, filling him with the need to kill.
“He’s dead. Both men are. The Estingias tore them apart…”
Cassian stepped back, trembling with rage.
He was an intelligent man. He put the pieces together and knew Vhaelor was involved in all of it.
He’d set a trap for his mother, and she’d walked right into it like the guilty woman she was.
