The caller was Leonard's assistant, Rhett.

Stella heard the heavy gravity in his voice. "What happened to Leonard?"

"Mr. Lerman was in a car crash on his way home a short while ago," Rhett said grimly. "He's in the emergency room right now."

Stella shot up in bed. "How bad is it? Is it serious?"

"We don't know the full extent yet," Rhett replied.

"Do we know what caused it?" Stella asked.

"It was deliberate," Rhett said. "A hit-and-run."

"Who did it?"

"We haven't tracked them down yet."

"I understand. I'm on my way," Stella said.

She hung up and immediately dialed Wilbur and Gideon. She told Wilbur to come pick her up, then ordered Gideon to completely lock down the news of Leonard's crash.

She had barely enjoyed a few days of normal sleep, and now she was back to operating in the dead of night.

By the time she organized everything, washed her face, and headed downstairs, Wilbur's car was already waiting.

The vehicle sped through the quiet streets.

The hospital where Leonard was being treated was the exact same one where Joshua had stayed during his illness.

Staring out into the pitch-black night, Stella thought of Joshua.

Could it be him?

If Joshua really orchestrated this, did that mean... he had finally regained his memories?

Stella arrived at the hospital shortly after.

Rhett was pacing outside the surgical ward. When he saw her, he let out a massive sigh of relief.

"Ms. Cameron, you're finally here."

"What's his status?" Stella asked. "Is his life in danger?"

"They got him here fast enough. He's stable for now," Rhett answered.

The tension in Stella's face eased slightly.
