The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2074

"A token from the past?"

Stella Cameron stared at the text on her screen, her gaze deepening.

Just then, the host's voice echoed from the stage.

"Quiet down, everyone. Let's welcome Mr. Skyler Williams to the stage to say a few words."

Skyler quickly stepped up to the microphone.

He smiled and said, "Thank you to all our friends and family for attending my granddaughter Shay Chapman's birthday party. Shay was born premature and weak, so she spent her early days recovering, which meant we had to delay her hundred-day celebration. As compensation, The Williams Group will transfer three percent of its shares to Shay as her birthday gift. When Shay turns eighteen, she will inherit another three percent. These shares have already been placed in a trust. They will unlock and officially transfer to her name on her eighteenth birthday."

As soon as he finished speaking, his assistant walked up with a tray.

On it rested a signed share transfer agreement.

Aurora Williams stood next to Skyler, holding the hand of a three-year-old girl.

Stella's eyes landed on the little girl, Shay.

Shay had delicate features, looking absolutely adorable with radiant skin.

Her big, round eyes were clear and bright, radiating pure innocence.

Looking at the little girl on stage, Stella felt a sudden, suffocating tug at her heart.

If her own child were still alive, they would be about this age.

An uncharacteristic wave of hesitation washed over Stella.

Was it really right to drag such a young child into this scheme?

As Stella was lost in thought, Shay's sweet, childish voice chimed through the microphone.

"Thank you, Grandpa."

In this age of high-speed internet, people often joked about why wealthy families were so obsessed with having children—was there a throne to inherit?

For elite, billionaire families, having more children simply meant securing more leverage.

Strategic marriages were essentially an exchange of interests.

However, a marriage alone wasn't enough to secure a solid relationship between two families.

Even blood relatives who had spent decades together could turn against each other over money, let alone a husband and wife.

A child between the couple, however, was the perfect bond to tie two massive families together.

Spouses could become strangers, but a child would always be blood.

Skyler's decision to transfer shares to Shay today had nothing to do with the supposed favoritism Queenie Burton had claimed. It was just the standard operating procedure for a union between two powerhouses.

If Lauretta Chapman and Antoney Watson had a child, the Chapman family and the Watson family would transfer shares as well.
