The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 74

Parker had been projecting his voice loudly, showing zero restraint or discretion.

Nora and Cassidy hadn't even stepped into the elevator yet. Despite being dozens of feet away, they had heard every unfiltered word spilling from his mouth.

Cassidy hadn't reacted when he called her a nightmare.

But when Parker brought up Seraphina's name right in front of Maloney, and had the audacity to talk about regrets and who was a better match, Cassidy completely lost it.

She could swallow the bitter pill of the husband she had chosen, but she absolutely would not let him disrespect her best friend.

Nora and Maloney had nearly divorced over the Seraphina situation just a short time ago.

They had finally cleared up the misunderstanding.

Cassidy was used to Parker running his mouth; it usually went in one ear and out the other. But Nora was prone to overthinking. A single ambiguous comment could send her spiraling into a hundred different conclusions.

And she would inevitably cling to the worst one.

Cassidy's mood had already been foul.

She had planned to endure it.

She didn't want to ruin Jasmine's special day.

But Parker's unbearable behavior pushed her past the point of restraint.

Cassidy put her entire body weight into the swing.

*Thwack!*

The sound alone was enough to make anyone wince.

The impact sent Parker stumbling sideways. He stood there dazed for a few seconds. Once the dizziness faded, he reached up to touch the back of his head and slowly turned to stare at Cassidy in utter disbelief.

The words *"How dare you hit me?"* were already on the tip of his tongue.

But Cassidy was faster. She whipped out her phone and snapped two quick pictures of Parker's bewildered face.

Without missing a beat, she held down the microphone button and recorded a voice note: "He tried to sabotage my friend's marriage, so I hit him."

The phone in Parker's pocket buzzed.

And buzzed again.

Maloney was a heavyweight in The Capital Elite.

How could she let him become a laughingstock in front of someone like that?!

"You're the one who needs to shut up!" Parker shoved Cassidy hard. "When men are talking, keep your mouth shut!"

The moment Parker raised his hand, both Nora and Maloney lunged forward.

"Cassidy!"

"That's enough!"

They both stepped in to shield Cassidy, pushing Parker away.

Because they moved at the exact same time, their arms collided.

Maloney was tall and broadly built, standing like an immovable wall. Nora, on the other hand, had a slender frame. The impact of their collision sent Nora stumbling backward.

Nora was speechless.

She had intended to reach out and catch Cassidy, but instead, Cassidy ended up pulling her back.
