The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 50

At the very least, that tiny flutter of affection Nora had felt during Maloney's proposal had been completely and thoroughly extinguished by Eleanor's harsh words.

If Maloney hadn't brought it up today, Nora would have almost completely forgotten it had happened.

"Since you haven't forgotten," Maloney stared intently at Nora, "Then why did you ask me why I married you?"

"I..."

She had no way to answer that.

Under Maloney's scorching gaze, Nora felt deeply uncomfortable. Her body instinctively curled up even tighter, and she ducked her head, frantically burying her face against Maloney's chest.

Maloney stroked her hair, choosing not to press the issue.

He had made his point.

The little lady already realized she was being stubborn over nothing.

That was enough.

After returning from the Sinclair Group that day, Maloney had sat down to seriously reflect. Why was Seraphina so unbelievably arrogant and entitled when it came to him?

When they practically had no relationship at all.

Was it just because the Sinclair family spoiled her?

Not entirely.

The Jameson family had given her far too much validation in the past as well.

And perhaps there were others stirring the pot from the sidelines.

All these varying factors had been invisibly piling pressure onto Nora.

Maloney should have solved these problems much sooner.

Whether it was his parents, Seraphina, or Maloney's own shortcomings, he needed to resolve them one by one.

Marriage was an art.

For two years of marriage, Maloney had been treating Nora like a fragile porcelain doll, coddling her with excessive care.

That was a mistake.

They hadn't even built the most foundational layer of trust.

Nora had a reserved personality, and Maloney couldn't just endlessly coddle her.

He needed to respect her pace, actively guide their conversations, closely observe the details, and assert his dominance when necessary.

When she tried to run away, he had to pull her right back.

Because once she was caught, she would behave.

The word 'divorce' hung over his head like a blaring alarm.

Maloney had to ensure every step he took was steady and calculated for progress.

Unable to answer the question, Nora nuzzled into Maloney's chest like a helpless little kitten.

A moment later, Nora froze, mumbling softly, "You're poking me."

Maloney gently patted Nora's shoulder, his tone completely matter-of-fact. "Nora, it's a completely natural reaction."

Maloney was incredibly well-endowed and gifted; it was a massive advantage, and she shouldn't hide from him.

Otherwise, it would negatively impact his performance.

But she was genuinely terrified of a repeat of yesterday.

Maloney patiently and gently coaxed her.

Under his gentle assault, Nora gradually surrendered. She softly closed her eyes, her hands unconsciously gripping Maloney's collar.

"Maloney..."

"Just... don't take too long..."

She was genuinely worried that if it went on too long, she wouldn't be able to handle it.

"I have an appointment tomorrow, I need to go out in the morning."

Fearing Maloney wouldn't believe her, Nora quickly explained, "Really, I'm meeting Jasmine. She's getting engaged next month, and I'm making her dress. She recently lost weight, and her waist is so much smaller now. I have to go help her alter it. You... you just can't keep me up too late."

"Alright, I know," Maloney said, sweeping Nora up into his arms and carrying her to the bed.

He laid her down on her stomach.

Maloney rested his large hand against the small of her back.

Her waist was even narrower than his palm.

She was incredibly tiny.
